Xperia Z1 camera - blurry pictures with noise and washed colours

Hi Everyone,

I'm a little concerned about the performance of the Xperia Z1 camera.

I had read already in some reviews that the pictures are not too sharp and the colours are washed, but now i have experienced it myself.

This camera should be way better than the camera in the iPhone 5, but i'm getting sharper images and more realistic colours with the iPhone. There is a lot of noise in the Z1 pictures, the Superior Auto mode is not getting things right, neither in focus, picture sharpness or colors.

I was expecting this camera to be very sharp and accurate, but i found out it's not near that. As per all the effort Sony has put in advertising the Z1 camera, i think we should get a software update and improve the camera a lot.

Do you think this is a software problem? Every Xperia Z1 review i've read points that out.

i don't think it's an android version problem...it's all about sony and there processing software.

I mean this is one off the best camera hardware on the market.....

Take a look at the iphone 5s/Lg G2/Samsung Galaxy S4 all top off the line smartphones with sony sensors and they are getting great results because off their processing algorithms/software...

Sony are very inconsistent in processing software.....I mean if you look at samsung you see the same processing from low end smartphones to the top of the line(and this is going on for years).....Sony have different processing of the images almost from phone to phone......and i have a lot of examples.

Pro Capture will give you 20MP in superior auto.

I've found 8MP photos to be less noisy than 20MP.

Sony does not allow 3rd party software to modify the ISO. This is not a Sony only thing, LG does the same thing as well.

Only the stock app can change ISO.

Best app to use is stock. Though pro catpure is prolly the closest rival.

This is in very dark conditions exposure is set to +0.66 and night mode

Exifs show VSCO cam was used. Night scene mode with 0.8s shuter speed. You must hav rested the phone on something to get this without any shake. I find still life is easy to get.

Shots like what pushkar posted with low light & people moving is harder. if android allowed 4sexposure then those people would all dissappear.

It's so annoying, I feel like having €3000 Alienware laptop using Windows 98... It's killing me Slightly_smiling_Face

Very very disappointed with the camera as well, no matter what settings I use, the resulting picture just looks so grainy.
not happy at all with it.

I bought a z1 2 days back and i'm experiencing a lot of standby battery drain , also the photos taken by the camera are a **bleep** lot grainy. Please look into such issues, it's a flagship device.

i've heard that people shoot in manual etc etc but to be honest, we shouldn't have to deal with tinkering with settings for a point and shoot phone camera--a top of the line one at that.  when will this be resolved?

Keep thinking that and you will have to continue to put up with less than optimal shots.

Whereas those that learnt to shoot manual in October have been getting very good shots since.

With the .290 update, i've seen people mention that low light with SA works as good if not better than manual.  but mid to daylight does not come out as well. It will take time for this to be resolved. As you can imagine there are an infinity of scnearios you can photograph with equally varying lighting conditions. The camera will NEVER know what you are trying to photograph and the best it can do is make a guess. Even top of the line DSLRs need to be helped along to get better shots. Theri sensors can get confused as well.

You have to understand that YOU are the photographer not the camera. Stop hiding behind the camera and come out in front and own your shots. The camera did not take the photo, YOU did !

There is one thing i´ve noticed with the camera. When you take high iso pictures in 8mp manual mode with the iso set to 1600 or 3200 the pictures look like oil paintings with the newest firmware android 4.3. With the old 4.2.2 257 update the pictures looked better in high iso settings. Am i the only one who have noticed this? If you can, try to see for your selfs..

nothing has changed after upgrading, here you see any images, any image you can not take pictures, not to paint several times to make it look good, the picture looks as plastic as Photoshop,
I should not like to work with 20-megapixel camera ..
nokija has much better focus and sharpness even the smaller pixels
that's the problem here I do not know but the images veri bad
