Headphones - Music and Audio randomly pauses intermitently without interacting with device at all

I have been having an issue with my music randomly pausing for the last week or so since upgrading to the latest software (version: 23.4.A.0.546)

It may or may not be related to the latest software patch, however the pausing has become increasingly frequent (sometimes pausing up to 3 - 4 times in a single minute)

I have never encountered this issue before now. I can also confirm that music does not pause itself when its being played through the speakers. Swapping out headphones made no difference to the problem. I have restarted the device several times. The pauses occur regardless of what music app I use.

This issue is really impacting my enjoyment of the device as I listen to music whenever I walk anywhere and my Z3c is my only mobile music player.

I have searched and searched and found that others seem to be facing similar issues - see this post on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/2ohvh0/music_randomly_pausing_on_z3c_headphone_jack_iss...

The phone has not been exposed to the elements recently, has not been dropped or damaged. The headphone port appears to be clean and tidy.

Please help!

@methepeople Check the phone's headphone jack and make sure that there isn't any dirt or similar that could cause this issue. You can also test with another headset if you haven't done so already.

You can also test the other suggestions in this topic but if none help you should contact your Local support team for more information on how you can get your phone examined at an authorised service center. I hope one of these suggestions help you.

My Z5 has started behaving similarly.  I've had this phone for about a year. Whether playing over Bluetooth or over headphones, after between 5 to 30 seconds of playing media in any app, there's a loud, high-pitched "beep," the media pauses, and the volume goes to maximum.  This happens in any app with audio -- YouTube, Vine, BlackPlayer EX, Google Music, whatever. The apps don't crash; they just pause.

I've tried the Smart Connect changes.  I haven't yet tried a factory reset.  The latter is a pain and doesn't appear to be working for anybody else, so I'm leaving that as a last resort.

Hi @SER, I'm sorry to hear that.

If none of the previous suggestions in this topic helped it is possible that this is hardware related. In that case you need to get your device examined further by an authorised service center. I would still suggest that you try a software repair using Xperia Companion before sending it in for examination though. Please contact your Local support team if you require further assistance with this.

Christofer,

Thanks for the response.  FWIW (for others similarly suffering), it appears to have resolved itself.  I uninstalled a bunch of audio-related software and upgraded the Smart Connect app (which I don't use and do not upgrade, along with most of the other Sony default applications), and there was an OS upgrade in there in the past couple of weeks.  I suspect the upgrade to Smart Connect is what fixed it, but I can't really say.
