When my alarm rings in the morning (or any other time in fact) the screen becomes completely unresponsive, meaning I cannot use the slider to turn it off. The only solution I have found is to push the power button repeatedly try to get to the normal lock screen (which is also unresponsive at first) and mess around until that lets me unlock the phone go to the settings screen and turn the alarm off. Or simply reset the phone. This is a horrible way to wake up in the morning.
I have tested the alarm after turning off the Smart Connect "Night" setting, and I have also deleted all the clock app data, but the problem persists.
The alarm clock worked fine at first - it happened a couple of times, but has now happened for the last four mornings in a row or whenever I test the alarm during the day.
Does anyone know what's going on?

I have owned this Z Ultra phone for 2 weeks. The first day I opened it, I could get the alarm worked fine. I then updated to 4.4.4 and this alarm issue came up.
It was very annoying at the point that I had to install a different alarm app to use and disabled this Sony built in alarm.
Today for some reason the Sony built-in alarm came up and I had to do a power off to bypass this problem. I felt very annoying, so I played around and found this work around works for me (so far):
1. Go to Settings.
2. Pick Personalization
3. Manage notifications
4. Select All
If Clock/Clocks apps are not enabled, enable them.
If Clock/Clocks app are enabled, disable them. Restart your phone.
Repeat step1-4 and enable the Clock/Clocks apps.
I used these steps and able to get the slider and the side key to work.
This totally fixer my problem. Thank you you Made my Day... And morning... Allow CLOCK NOTIFICATIONS
yes this works thank you

Try going to Personalisation/Manage Notifications. I seen that I had the Clock App as set to disabled. Just enabled it and tried an alarm and my swipe right to turn off finally appeared again!!
Hope this helps...

Just solved my alarm clock problem!!
Go to Settings -> Apps
I found two CLOCK applications.
I disabled one CLOCK app, and it now works.
I no longer need to restart my phone to turn off the alarm.
I guess the two CLOCK applications came from Sony and Android, each.
There seems to be no way of turning the alarm system off. For some crazy reason this stops the phone ringing, I have only had the phone two months and never used the alarm, none are set. At the moment I am left with a useless phone of bad design.
Well done, that sorted it for a test alarm, hope it works at 0500 !
Thank you.
