Since I have updated to Marshmallow last night, my Z5 no longer shows the number of notifications I have on each app 😞 Anyone else have this problem? Notifications still appear in the notifications bar but not on the apps themselves (the little number).
Solved! Go to Solution.
This issue is also present on z3 compact. After the upgrade from the previous Android version to 6.0.1 the badges are no longer presented.
I have contacted WhatsApp support and according to WhatsApp this is an issue that should be resolved by Sony.
Not only Whatsapp does not show badges over the icon, this is also the true for the Facebook icon. WhatsApp recommends to remove and re-install WhatsApp to solve this isseu, but that is not the solution for me.
Pointing at each other usually leads to nothing and I wonder who has to do something to fix this issue.
Question:
If a topic seems to have an solution, does this mean no reply from preferrably someone from Sony can be expected? The solution provided isn't a real solution because the badges still aren't working for gmail, facebook and whatsapp.
I have an Xperia Z5 Compact and have installed several apps, among them Facebook and whatsapp.
I have android 6.0 installed.
For some reason I am not able to get badge notifications on them.
A colleague of mine has got an Xperia Z3, also with the same version of android, facebook app and whatsapp. He is seeing facebook badges on his app icon.
For me, facebook has never shown any badges, even on previous Android (I assumed it was the app that just did not do that, until I found out about my colleague having no issue with the same version)
Whatsapp did work, until I installed the latest Sony update yesterday. Now that is not working either.
Things I expect to show badges, but do not :
Things that still are showing badges :
I have tried several things, like reinstall, forcing stop, clear data and rerun, and turning sliders off and on again, etc..
Since my whatsapp was working until yesterday, I am starting to get a bit fed up with this.
How on earth can I force my device to start showing these badges??
I am desperate and kinda annoyed.
Can anyone help??
What I see is that when I install a Notifyer app, this app will make the badges visible.
This lead me to the conclusion that the different apps (FB, Whatsapp) do indeed send notifications, but that these are not picked up by my device.
This can have several causes:
The latest Sony software definitely has changed something, since I had whatsapp badges before that update.(so between the upgrade to marshmallow and this latest update, i had working whatsapp badges)
But the fact that my colleague has notifications for FB, which I never ever had on my device, lead me to the assumption that either my settings are incorrect, or that my device does not pick up stuff that my colleague’s (older) device does.
Whether that is due to obsolete function methods still being used by whatsapp/FB is in my opinion irrelevant.
The notifyer app I use now was last updated in april, so apparently they still keep these obsolete code parts in mind in their software.
It is a pity that I need to resort to third party apps to do the things my device's OS should be tackling.
While I understand that Sony moves away from obsolete code when programming their own software, this could have easily been avoided by talking to the most important app providers about this issue.
The fact that even the Gmail app, which is inherent to the Android system, does not show badges, is quite disturbing to see.
Customers are unhappy because on other manufacturer devices, and on older Sony devices, things are not disappearing. This can i.m.o. be solved quite fast and well by Sony, but only if they decide this issue is important enough.
Only thing I know is that my decision to buy a new Sony device in a few years will be influenced by this kind of decisions.
No answer from Sony yet..
According to WhatsApp this looks like an issue in the build from Sony(Model D5803, Build 23.5.A.0.575).
WhatsApp knows about this issue and is investigating this but is unable to tell if WhatsApp can create a workaround for this issue and if it is possible, when this will be released.
Now lets hope Sony can make some people happy again..
Just got an update from WhatsApp and now running WhatsApp version 2.16.123. And...
I have a badge with the number of unread message back on the WhatsApp icon.
Notifyer is no longer needed to display the number of messages in a badge.
Hi, I also updated WhatsApp (now 2.16.125) but still nothing. I've a Japanese Z5 from Softbank and it's stuck on 6.0 (no 6.0.1 in Japan) so maybe that's the problem. I'm really disappointed. In 2016 a smartphone that doesn't do a simple thing like showing a notification it's simply ridiculous. And not releasing updates in Japan for a japanese company is even worse.
