When I try to send sms, tap on send button, it says "could not send" and conversion list remains clear!

Upgraded from 4.4.4 23.0.1.a.5.77 to 5.1.1 23.4.A.1.232 -r8c .
Uninstalled SmsBackupAndRestore and disabled Delivery Report but no help.

@moonshower

I'm sorry to hear that.

It sounds like the backup is damaged somehow. In a previous post you mentioned that there was something wrong with your unit and a service centre had to replace its motherboard. Is this backup taken before the repair?

What if you restore the backup, take a new backup using another backup software (for example MyBackup or MyPhoneExplorer), reset the phone and then try to restore the new backup?

Yes, the SMS backup was taken before the repair, but I believe it doesn't matter because it was a hardware fault, not software. What does matter, I suspect, is that backup was taken on KitKat firmware, while restored on Lollipop. If that's a reason of SMS app failure, Sony backup definitely must warn about OS major version change and block restore of such a backup. If it was written somewhere in Sony PC Companion dialogs, I am sorry if I didn't notice it.

Concerning further experiments, I think it's a job for software testers and not your customers who paid for the product. I cannot afford being not able to receive SMS messages, I use my phone for business and being disconnected is very likely to cause me loss. Of money or reputation. Sorry.

I'm very sorry for any inconvenience and loss this may have caused you.

I suspect there's something wrong with the data in the backup causing this but without access to the specific backup, i'm afraid i can't say for sure and i can only give suggestions on what you can try to solve it.

PC Companion already has the checks and blocks you suggest. It will not let you restore a incompatible backup.

If you can provide me with confidentiality, I would send you this backup file for testing. It contains my personal and business chats. I was sure it's just a text data, and the idea that text data can halt app from sending|receiving SMS seemed crazy to me.

I have the same problem. I can restore everything from my backup except for the conversion list. I have backups from before and after the update to Lollipop. Restoring the conversion list from any of the backups stops receiving and sending sms's.

What is the point in making backups if you can't restore them without breaking the phone?

The backup will of course be handled with confidentiality. I'm not sure if i can find what's wrong and fix it myself though so i may need to forward it to the messaging team to see if it can be fixed.

Could you upload it to Google Drive and send me a link in a private message?

Like everyone else here I am also getting the "Could not send" message when I try to send messages and I am not recieving messages as well. I downloaded PC Companion, but when I go through the process of connecting my phone it just says "PC Companion must be updated". I have checked and rechecked, and there are no updates I need for PC Companion. It says it is up to date but will not connect with my phone. I have restarted both my pc and my phone, but still get the same problem.

I am using a Sony Xperia z3v. I downloaded Lollipop last night but didn't notice the messaging issue until today. I know I am not the first to encounter this issue, and from looking at forums it is not new. There has to be an easier way than restoring to factory settings (which isn't even an option for me because of the PCC issue). My phone, messaging especially, is an integral part of my job, and I was unaware that I was missing important messages until this evening. It is unacceptable to expect the user to be responsible for fixing a problem in such a basic function of the phone as text messaging.

I started getting this issue where around half of my messages would not send on my Z3C, and I'd have to keep retrying.  I seemed to have resolved it by installating the official Google Messenger app and using that for SMS instead, it works much better:

Hi.
I have the same problem with messaging app since 2 months.
I tried repairing my phone with pc companion, when I connected my phone with USB cable to computer and clicked (on my phone) "install software", it launched a program on my computer called Sony app I think, it asked me to select language and location, then I clicked "next", agreed Sony conditions, and it fails to download data from Internet fot installing my phone on computer.... I tried to download drivers from Sony's site and install them manually, but it Didn't worked.... It says that the peripheral is corrupt or not well installed, I'm owning a Xperia E4 DUAL, running Android 4.4.4.
