Done: Support zone -> Software update -> Repair phone.

And it WORKS !

I didn't need to make backup (few programs and picture folder), so this step I can't test (if after restoring backup it also works).

I have Z2 and factory reset did solved the problem.

Conclusion is that some application was messing up with SonyMessaging or with some settings that were used by SonyMessaging.

I made backup, reset phone, (didnt tried to send sms since no contacts) restored full backup, contacts, messages, settings data all, and still got "could not send".

Then I performed repair again, and did not restored backup and messaging works...

Now my apps are getting updated again via wireless (Sony and Google apps) and after that i will check if i can send sms...

After that, I installed only WhatsApp, Viber, and Slidelock application... nothing else...

Glad to hear that it worked for you as well.

As you say, sounds like an app or perhaps something that was restored with the backup causing this.

In case it should happen again, could you please send me a private message here on the forum? We might need a log from the phone in that case to see what may cause this.

Except "bug in settings" I am suspecting that stamina mode somehow messed up messaging/signal/something. Because thats the only difference now. I have all apps I had before, and sms is working now. Now I didnt activated stamina mode at all, in past I had it activated all the time. Regular one, not the extreme stamina mode.

It didnt crossed my mind to disable stamina and also I forgot about safe mode when I had problem, I didnt tried to use safe mode to see if that would help.

Calls were working back then and work now.

PS.

Im kinda dissapointed with what is backup really doing... It didnt saved icons in home screen, icons in menu, didnt saved settings for xperia keyboard, a lot of settings arent saved in backup...

It would be nice if backup really could include every single setting like on computer.

Hey there,

I am having a similar problem with my SMS stock app.

I am not able to send and neither receive any SMS on my D5833 . The phone already came with the Lollipop update installed, and SMS works fine with stock settings and no additional apps installed.

After I used PCC to restore a backup I had from my previous D5833 (yeah, I had the same phone previously, but it came with an issue on the body which Sony couldn't solve, so long story short they sent a new one), my old SMSs are there but I am unable to send nor receive any text messages using the default app. I get the message "Could not send" and the text I was sending is not saved as well. I believe very strongly that the backup I had is somehow causing this.

I made a backup of the device using the Android SDK and then peformed a factory reset on the device and tested the app. Works fine. Then, I restored the backup to the phone through the adb, and messaging gets broken again.

I am currently trying out the 'Support Zone' fix mentioned in this thread and will post the outcome later.

It seems that what it does is it re-installs the latest available Sony system device update through PCC hoping to resolve any issues on the phone.

However, up until now, no solution informed here was enough to completely solve my messaging issue so I am open for other suggestions.

Thanks!

As expected, the fix didn't work at the end, so I am 99% sure it is something in the backup...

Just as a clarification, the backed up messages were transferred from an LT18a and not from my previous D5833 as I had mentioned.

Now, I will trythe following: wipe the phone again, and then transfer back only the backed up messages. Then, I will install the SMS backup and restore app and try its backup feature and see if I get a better result after wiping the phone once more...

Again, if you anyone have suggestions, please let me know!!

Thanks.

I have the same trouble - after restoring the backed up conversations the SMS app is not sending/receiving messages at all. Have anybody got the solution to this? Sony, maybe? This mess is caused by your software.

Made a hard reset. Tried SMS sending - ok. Restored backed up SMS archive with Sony Companion. Could not send or receive SMS no more. Sony, fix your software!
