The receivers always hear an echo from my phone, and the soud quality is bad.

I tried to change all the sound settings available, nothing works.

Anyone had same issue already ?

Is here any Sony representative to finally declare that it is a hardware-based issue with all Z2s???
I paid a lot for this handset and I'm very disappointed. Fed up with repeating words all the time.

P.S. Has anyone tried to make a call from sony to sony phones and measure quality?

I am furious. I contacted the sony support centre directly about this issue and they told me to test my microphone and perform a software update and fix. This did nothing to resolve the issue. I returned my brand new handset to Vodacom, and they sent the phone to Sony's advanced repair centre in a different province. 9 days later I got the phone back with the issue unresolved. I want a replacement handset now. I am so angry I have no words for my anger. I am going to start telling everyone what a terrible product this is with latent defect, and I will also make sure to tell everyone how awful Sony's service is. Not to mention Vodacom, who have told me that they will only consider a replacement after the phone has been back three times for repair. Sony, please do something urgently to resolve this issue. I cannot use this phone because of the echo that everyone gets when they talk to me on this rubbish phone.

Hi, I also encountered the xperia muffled sound issue.

I've done some comparisons with (simultaneously) recording a sweep with a calibrated Bruel & Kjear microphone (essentially flat from 10 to15000 Hz, the xperia z2 and an Iphone. (and some other phones from nokia )

My conclusion is that Sony put a low pass filter on the MAIN microphoine, at LEAST second order, with turn frequency somewhere around 900 Hz.

Furthermore they have a bandstop above 5 Khz. This i smeasured from a recording, so there is no reception or carrier part in this.

Since we need at the very least content up tp 3000 Hz to have anything like a normal conversation this explains why the other party is constantly complaining they can't hear us.

Iit can be hardware or software, I put my money on hardware, I think the presence of a speaker in the same volume as the mic (main mike) forces sony to filter the mic this drastically.

I sent my phone in for repair, pinpointing the issue  (> 8dB rolloff above 1 kHz) got it back after wo weeks and the issue has not been resolved.

If you want to see how your phone is doing in this view, simly install an app like audiotool and compare the graph live with an other capable phone running the same app in the same soundfield (have your PC generate white noise or just put on MTV rock channel) and see the difference. The low pass filtering immideatly shows.

Tomorrow I'll be bringing my phone back to the store (KPN in the Netherlands) and ask them to have it sent in for the same issue.

Will repeat until fixed or get aworking replacement because his is really bridiculous.

And now SONY, please respond!!

For the record,

My phone is a black xperia z2, bought in The Netherlands at KPN, no drops, no water, no other issues, no tape, no cover, no screenprotector, no noting.

Did you manage to resolve this problem? I have the same issue. Actually I am an RF engineer designing cellular devices, so I took it to the Lab and tested the phone using a base-station simulator (CMU200). I played standard ITU voice samples over a 2G voice call and recorded the voice on the other side. This way I compared both a call with internal microphone to a call using and external headset Microphone. The results were disastrous the internal microphone, under noisy condition, can no way deliver an intelligible voice on the other side.

I posted the results to sony and they have promised to forward to the technical department but so far they have been silent on this!! If they fail to react I will publicly post the results. I bought the phone on Amazon so I can not take it back to the shop.

I have also an issue with the microphone

I don't know how to call the issue I get complains from people on the other side

I have a good call quality when connected to a bluetooth headset/carkitor to the original wired in ear headset

I received 23.4.A.1.232 and this only solved the stagefright

when will the microphone isue be fixed.

I had the same problem till I solved the problem.
I've tried everything like downgrade to 4.4, changing microphone setting, repairing with sony pc companion. Nothing solved the problem so dont do that things.
Here is the solution.
Go to setting then call. Turn off microphone noise suspension and speaker enhance and slow talk.
Then restart your phone.after 5 minutes do the factory reset with delete everything option. I mean tick the option which delete your internal memory.
After that your phone is ok but dont chang any options in call setting. Don't turn off or on any setting in there like microphone noise or speaker enhance or slow talk.
Leave those options what it is.
Your phone is fine again
