Unable to sign into Emails.

I updated my hotmail password on my computer and when I went to update it on my Xperia Z5 it kept saying incorrect details, so I deleted the account to try and re-sync everything again but now it keeps saying "Log-in error. Check your username and password, then try again." but when I add my email and the updated password it keeps repeating that error message. I am unsure on what to do?

You may need to try use the Live email application, it is made specifically for the Hotmail/Live/Outlook email accounts.

You can download it directly from the Play Store

I cannot see any resolution other then a software repair or using there supplied app, as I have tried this multiple times on multiple devices without being able to replicate it.

Hi MrN,

Is it possible for you to change the password again on your hotmail account and see if the issue continues?

If it does continue, can you advise what incoming and outgoing server settings you are trying to use.

Hi, 

I tried changing my password once again but the issue persists. I tried to use Manual setup with IMAP (what I was using before I had deleted it) I get an error saying "Could not open connection to server"

Are you using Wifi or Data to connect the service.

That error message generally indicates a few things, one the incoming or outgoing are wrong, or two your connection is not working correctly (Internet).

Can you try clearing the Email app data.

Menu > Settings > Apps > Email > Storage > Clear Data

The best way to figure out what is fault would be to add another account to the device.

Can you add your Gmail account to the normal email app. You can remove it when done. If this works without issue then the problem can on stem from Hotmail/Outlook and or the settings being supplied in the incoming and outgoing servers.

  • Incoming (IMAP) Server

    • Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com

    • Port: 993

    • Encrypted Connection: SSL

  • Outgoing (SMTP) Server

    • Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com

    • Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)

    • Authentication: Yes

    • Encrypted Connection: TLS

These are Outlooks supplied server details, who own and run Hotmail.

it has happened to me twice for my exchange email.

First time i had to reset app permissions and clear data...the MM new security somehow blocks it..

When my exchange password was changed, the problem occured again and this time all kinds of resets didn't work..

I had to hard reset and factory default the phone...then it worked again...

I'm just waiting for my next password change and see if the problem happens again..if it does, it's a pain...i'll have to factory default my phone every 3months then..because that's the requirement for my exchange password change..

I have a similar issue on my Z5 that is stopping me receiving any email.

Have unistalled and reinstalled the Exchange software through Google Play store as well as my deleted and then re-imported myemail account, but this didn't work for long. Made a connection long enough to start downloading my inbox, but failed part-way through and now refuses to connect again.

Looking at some of the feedback on Google Play, it seems to be a wider issue that just Sony phones.
