I updated my Z5 on 6-23-16. It took 13gb of memory from my phone. It went around 24gb to a little over 11gb. Why did the update take so much space and is this normal? Nothing has really changed on the phone it doesn't make any sense to me.

I might be, that I'm a little bit dumb, but these pictures are right.
It says in the picture:
"Device Storage
11.26 GB Total USED of 32 GB."
If you calculate 9.42 + 2.07=11.49 gb used. The rest is your free space.
Got an update from Sony (v. 32.2.A.0.224) bug fixes, performance update, improve battery life, camera functions, sound handling, bluetooth connectivity. The update took 13gb of memory from my Z5. To me the phone is exactly the same. 32gb phone, had over 24gb of memory. After the update all I have is 11.26gb left. Don't understand how an update can take so much space for minor fixes. All my pics and music is on my sd card. Can't find anything that would take up 13.
Android system only took up 9.42gb. My apps only 2.07gb.
Let's wait for the pictures to be approved or you can upload them to box or dropbox or drive, etc and post the link here.
I agree with @Bugmenotsony There's nothing with your device at all.
