Sony Z3 photo transfer with broken screen

Hi!

My Sony Z3 is now broken. The touch on the screen doesn't work, but everything else is fine. I've been connecting a mouse to access it.

I have alot of picture and videos on my phone that I really want to transfer to my computer. But the problem is that I need one cable to connect from the phone to the computer to transfer, but then I need to have another cable to my mouse so I can accept from my phone. My computer cant access my photos otherwise.

How should I do? Is there something I can turn off so I don't have to accept on my phone if I put it in my computer?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Useraxe, welcome to our forums!

I'm so sorry to hear about what has happened to your phone. Slightly_frowning_Face

Do I understand you correctly that you want to force the phone to use MTP mode since you can't choose what USB should be used for when the mouse isn't connected to the phone?

If that is what you are asking about, you can force the device to use MTP in the developer options of the phone.

Go to Settings > About phone and tap on "Version" 7 times, you are now a developer and a new option is available in Settings called "Developer options". Open up that menu and enable it (unless it's already enabled), scroll down a bit and find "USB debugging" and enable this feature. Go down a bit more and you will find "Select USB Configuration", tap on it and choose "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)".

You may have to restart the device once before connecting it to your computer again, now it should automatically choose MTP and you will be able to access the data on the internal storage / SD card.

Let me know how it went, and I'm sorry if I misunderstood your question!

Hhhh, the same thing happened to me, but my touch screen doesn't work against because of water 💦, I still working with mouse since six months ago until this moment writing this letter , you can use a memory card for the transfer of your media one by on, until it be fully then you can remove the memory card and connect it with your laptop to make it empty and put it again in your phone for continuing the transfer. Hope you get that helpful 😉

Why do people reply without reading the post carefully? Jonas, the guy says his xperia screen is messed up, hence (clue clue) he can't see the screen properly or he can't use the screen to go to Setting > bla > and then bla > and then bla? HELLO??

I have a similar case, my screen is dead but the phone is working okay in the back, phone rings. I can turn it off pressing power and volume up button and turn it back on by pressing power button. For some reason the Voice feature is turned on which keeps on reading the menu from the screen, I can't see the screen but I can hear the voice read like time, and other icons on status bar.

1. I tried connecting the phone via usb to my computer but it goes to 'charging' mode directly and I can't change to MTP mode since I can't  see the screen.

2. I tried with sony pc companion in my desktop but since the usb connection mode was to charging already the software doesn't respond to the phone or it doesn't have proper connection to the phone.

Is there a way to change the USB mode to MTP with Broken screen where I can't see anything? My hope is to back up some files before taking it to a repair where I believe I will lose all the data.

Lastly, is there a way to reset the phone in this present condition where I have no access to the phone via screen?

Hi @Fokadas,

I'm sorry to hear about your phone. Slightly_frowning_Face

I'm not sure what you mean, the user said his screen was working just fine but the touch wasn't working and in that the case you are able to connect a OTG cable/adapter and that way you can force the MTP mode since the screen is working. I'm sorry if I misunderstood what you meant.

If you can't see anything on the screen but the touch is still working, the only solution would be to tap on the screen at the correct place where you change to MTP (Media transfer protocol). I can see that you have an Xperia Z3 registered on your account is that the phone you are trying to access the data on?

I found a ruler here at the office and from the very top of an Xperia Z3 it's 5.7 centimeters (2.244 inches) to where you see the option to choose MTP mode.

So if you have a ruler or similar, please measure the distance and try tapping on the same place on the screen.

Do note that if you have a screen lock on your phone, you will need to unlock the phone for the computer to be able to access the internal storage in your phone.

You can reset the phone by performing a software repair using Xperia Companion. This will delete all data stored on the internal storage.
