SD card not readeble after the Update tp Android 6 -Z5compactBLACK-

Hi Support,

The update of my Z5compactBLACK to Android 6.0 was ok but SD card is not readble anymore after it. The same SD card works well on another phone...Sony support, Is this possible after an update? What I can try to do to restore it?

In this update seems that I've lost stamina and SD Card functionality. Not such a big deal I guess ( but it just got worse...)

Left with a bad taste

Cheers

Install 6.0 again. If sdcard is still not working try another sdcard. And the battery optimization from 6.0 in my opinion works better than stamina.

Hi Miche-le,

Welcome to the community,

You could also try connecting the SD card to a PC and backing up the content and then formatting it, after that try inserting back in to the handset, if it works simply transfer the content back to the SD card.

Regardless, let us know how you get on.

My device is a Xperia Z5 (E6653)

A few days ago a did a software update via the Sony PC Companion Software. All worked well, no error messages but now most apps (e.g., the original camera app, Quick pic picture gallery, Tiny player music player) display empty folders or report just empty folders on the SD card. When I use FileCommander or connect the phone to the PC all files are still there. Strangely, when I open a mp3 file in file commander using my music player (tiny player) to actually open it, the song is playing but still cannot be displayed in the folder explorer of tiny player.

To me, it looks a bit like permissions got corrupted, altough I cannot really explain what or why.

I'm not very experienced with Android but would appreciate any tip how to fix this. Is there a way to "roll back" to the previous version?

Thanks, Matthias

@matze_k

You can't roll back, you will have to use flashtool or xperifirm, but I think this was already reported on a previous post.

Hi,

I have a Z5 that had just received the update to MM but now it doesn't recognise my 128GB SD card. The same card is recognised by my Z3 compact and my Win7 laptop via a full size sd adapter. I can also mount my 64GB and 32 Gb cards but no joy with the 128. Any ideas?

@Woderwick

That's rather odd, what if you check on >>> safe mode ?

Hi Uliwooly,

Safe mode behaves the same.  It's as if no card has been inserted.  I see the same behaviour on my colleagues Z5 Compact on MM but on my Z3 Compact on Lollipop it's fine.  And now the support chat person is asking me to send it in for repair!!  3 times in as many months.  I'm livid, this has been the worst phone I have ever had!

@Woderwick

Could you please let me know what SD card you have that doesn't work? Brand, model, class?

Would it be possible for you to take a log file from your phone when this SD card is inserted and send it to me?

To do this:
Settings > About phone > Build number, tap 7 times on the build number
Go back and select Developer options and turn on "USB debugging"
Turn off phone and insert the SD card that doesn't work

Start the phone, wait a few minutes and then:
Settings > Developer options, select "Take bug report". When the report is ready share (may take a minute or so) you get a notification that you can tap and share to Google Drive. Please send me a link to this file in a private message.

Edit:

As you see the same thing when testing this SD card in another Z5 Compact and other cards works in your phone i doubt it will help sending your phone in for repairs. It sounds more like compatibility related.
