Hi Support,
The update of my Z5compactBLACK to Android 6.0 was ok but SD card is not readble anymore after it. The same SD card works well on another phone...Sony support, Is this possible after an update? What I can try to do to restore it?
In this update seems that I've lost stamina and SD Card functionality. Not such a big deal I guess ( but it just got worse...)
Left with a bad taste
Cheers
Miche-Le
Hi, thanks for a response that makes sense I'm not really getting that from the online chat
The SD device is one of these:-

Samsung Memory 128GB Grade 1 Class 10 EVO MicroSDXC
This worked fine before it went in for a repair (faulty USB port then a faulty screen). They upgraded to MM as part of the repair and I'm pretty sure that is where the problem lies. I'm sending the drive link in a moment.
Thanks,
Rod
Would it be possible for you to remove the partition on your SD-card and then create a new one using a PC and a card reader? But please note that this will delete all data on the SD-card so you first need to backup any data you want to save from it.
You can remove the partion using a software like MiniTool Partition Wizard but please note that this is a 3:rd party software, not supported by Sony Mobile.
1. In this software, right click the disk number for this SD card. Please make sure you select the correct disk!
2. Select "Delete all partitions" and select "Yes". This deletes all data on the SD-card!
3. Under the disk, you should now see "*:" with the file system "Unallocated"
4. Right click on "*:" and select "Create"
5. Change "Create As" from "Logical" to "Primary"
6. Set "File System" to "Unformatted"
7. Click "OK" and then click "Apply" at top left corner and "Yes" to apply.
8. Wait for the operation to finish and then close the software.
Now format the card in Windows or insert it in the phone and let the phone format it and see if the SD-card works again.
I am not having this particular issue with my z5p but I am having a slew of other problems can't transfer data to SD card can't view 4k content (the whole reason I brought the phone) half of the apps are no longer compatible with the new MM firmware witch resulted in me loosing data overall I am really disappointed in this poor excuse for a phone now and hope Sony get off there and rerelese a patch ASAP
Use the File commander app to transfer files from the internal storage to the SD card, app compatibility its not up to Sony but the third party developers, contact them regarding any issues, again, sorry to hear about your lost data but you should contact them regarding this.
Where are you getting the 4K videos so I can try to recreate your issues.
Hi Rickard,
Thanks for that response. I removed and added the partition and when I booted my phone up it offered to format the card for me. I can now use the card as it was before. I had formatted the partition in various formats but never did any work on the actual partitions. Fortunately I took a backup of the media on there before I wiped it
Thanks again.
Just got information that the reason some SD cards can't be found after the update is due to the fact that the SD card partition handling has been changed in Marshmallow. This will be fixed in an upcoming software update.
As a temporary workaround you can remove the partition using partition manager software such as MiniTool Partition Wizard. Make sure that you back up all your data, since removing the partition will delete all data on the SD card.

That's what I thought...
Is it possible to leave the dev team some feed back - the Z5C currently formats the cards as FAT32... while this may not be a problem for most people, it does limit file sizes to 4Gb
I was transferring images of Win 10 via phone and it took me a while to realise what was happening (error) when transferring from internal to card.
EDIT:
The phone will still accept the card when it is pre-formatted outside of the phone with exFAT and NTFS, I've yet to try ext4
I'm having a similar problem but my z5 doesnt seem to recongnise any sd card or anything sd card related for that matter in any app or on any page.
ive ran the software repair, ive formatted the sd card multiple times, ive even wiped my phone clean and restarted from scratch.
nothing.
i dont get it.
any help?
I've recently upgraded my Z5 to Marshmallow and now have the exact same issue. SD card worked fine before the update and doesn't now.
It seems Sony messed something up when they rolled out this updated forcing us all to have to backup, format cards and copy all stuff back.
Surely this would have been considered in the basic software testing? Maybe the Z5 needs to be included in the Beta programme like the Z3? Iron out these problems before they become an issue for consumers.
I bet there are a few less tech savvy people out there who have assumed their cards are screwed and binned them losing precious memories. What's really frustration is the update wasn't even rushed and then has such a problem. Quite disappointing really. Still love the device. Just feel that someone didn't do their job properly for such a fundamental issue.
XDA have a guide for problem solving.

Have now completed the steps in the above link and this has solved the problem. A little frustrating but not the end of the world. Still love Xperia.
