Reset factory default itself

My Xperia Z3 Compact reset itself to factory default in my pocket ...

The screen was locked and the option tape" twice on screen to wake-up" disactivate.

There is a combo of button to reset the phone ?

This has happened twice to me in just over a week.  Phone and card wiped.  I too have an exchange account, so that may be the common cause.

Using an alternative Key Lock App does not work if you have the Exchange policy set to force a PIN code.   You cannot disable the system PIN code.

Just did this test:

Woke up the phone, then to simulate pocket activity I just pressed random numbers on the PIN unlock pad.  After enough presses to fill in four, six digit passwords a message came up saying I have entered the PIN code wrong 4 times and it warned if I do this another four times it would reset the phone to the factory settings!!!

So I would say this is almost certainly the cause of the resets.   We need the "Enter" key back for the PIN code or some work around please.

One workaround which minimises the damage:  this is to use the Microsoft Outlook for Android App and use that instead on the supplied email program for connection to your Exchange Server.

If you do this although a PIN/PASSWORD is still required, if forced by your Exchange admin, if you enter the PIN code wrong too many times, all that gets wiped off is the Outlook Exchange account rather than the entire phone.  This is relatively quick to reinstate!

This was a change made in a recent release of the Outlook App and was announced as a "selling" point by Microsoft.

I also found out that if you use Outlook you also now seem to have the option of using a pattern or password as well as the PIN option.  If you use a password you have to press enter after the password so there is less risk of a reset.

BTW remember to delete the Exchange account from the original email program otherwise the old security rules still apply.

Hi RohitTech,

I can understand your faith in Sony products and their software. Maybe all the people posting here are not as clever as you are, but its not your opinion to consider all the people putting forth their grievance as fools.

I for one have a Z3Compact phone and use a separate gmail account only for android Sync. It does not exist anywhere else. All communication emails are to a different Google account.

My mobile reset to default yesterday and i can for sure acertain that NO ONE had access to my google accounts, because no one even knows the username, let alone its password.

Its a problem with the sony software and needs to be acknowledged. So keep calm and dont be overconfident.

Regards,

-------- Your post did not help anyone out and no KUDOS to you... sorry.

Fortunately, I haven't experienced that yet, but according to your vast experience in that matter - is there something I can do in order to prevent that from happening to me as well? (Besides dealing with the mail accounts)

I mean, isn't there an option to cancel completely the option of doing a factory reset via the device itself? (so you can only do it via PCC for example).

Unless its an hardware/software bug, and nothing will stop it from happening eventually...

My phone did it to me for the first time today. It also wiped my SD card and all my media. When I pulled my phone out of my pocket, it opened up to the setup wizard screen.

I've had this phone for almost a year and this is a first. Still pissed. BTW, I use a PIN lock.
