"Google Play Store has Stopped" after Z5 Premium Marshmallow Update

As soon as I updated to Marshmallow, I keep getting the "Unfortunately Google Play Store has stopped..." and the message keeps coming up every 5 seconds.

I tried clearing the cache, deleting data, uninstalling, disabling the app, force closing, signing out of google and back on.

Does not work.

I keep getting the pop up non-stop and it happened as SOON as it updated to Marshmallow.

I'm in the same boat as everyone here:

"Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped".

My Z5 keeps saying this after I updated to Marshmallow.

I've tried everything (including installing APKs of the most

recent and compatible Play Store and Play Services) except

for the factory reset/pc companion/bridge solution, because

that sounds horrible.

A fix/patch for this would be awesome, Sony.

In the meantime, I'm gonna hang out here and wait for someone

to figure out something more reasonable and less painful than

'wipe my phone'.

Bell Z5 owner here as well with this issue. I've tried a few options outside of factory wiping, and no luck. The phone still works, just not Google play. I'm visiting my parents for Easter, so the pc companion isn't an option right now. Also, saying the only solution is a factory reset is pretty poor customer service if you ask me. And in a big Sony supporter.

It's ironic because I was so eagerly awaiting marshmallow, it came available from Bell quicker than I expected and a part of me wondered if I should read some reviews before updating. I was too excited, and got burnt.

Weak stuff Sony, hope they get a legit solution other than factory wiping and staystarting from scratch (which it sounds like the pc companion solution is?)

Sadly, yes, the PC Companion/Sony Bridge solution is a factory reset to your internal memory.

There is a back-up routine to do beforehand through the program, but it's sounds sketchy (unplug,

hold down volume buttons while plugging back in...), so I'm holding off.

The SD card contents should be fine.

It looks like this issue is occuring across multiple Marshmallow devices, not just Xperia devices or the Z5 series.

Some of the suggestions to fix this are as follows.

1. Clear the data of the Play Store. To do this on your Z5:

Go to Settings > Apps > > Show system > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear Data.

2. Disable location services. To do this on your Z5:

Go to Settings > Location > Move the slider to the Off position.

3. Reinstall the Android system.

To do this on an Xperia device, please follow the steps here.

This might be something temporary and perhaps you should just give it some time.

Same here, Stoped after update

Whenever the fix comes out it will have to be via a PC, or a complete reset.  They have effectively broken the phone's ability to get updates of any kind.

I can wait for a few weeks. I am not losing all my settings and data.

Hi,

Please stop saying reset your phone. That´s not a solution. Just a workaround the implicates to "FORMAT" your phone.

Please provide a real solution.

Best Regards,

Matias

@alexdon I tried the first two and nothing. I'm not doing a factory reset at the moment.

If I took a backup can I not restore my settings/files from it?  What is the fear of running a restore other than the fact it's a pain and Sony should be providing a better solution?

Certain apps are borderline unusable at this point - if I open them the "google play has stopped" popup appears every split second......it's so aggravating.
