Hi all,
First post here. I just bought my z2 and I absolutely love it but am deeply disheartened and concerned by one problem I'm having which pretty much is the most important thing I need.
Almost every time I make a call - the mute, speaker, end call or other buttons get pressed while I'm talking. I've tried to make sure that the proximity sensor is covered by my ear and it still happens. I've also run the diagnostics and although they pass I've noticed that the vibration for the proximity sensor test does not always stay on if I put the phone up against my ear and move it around. Eventually the vibration turns off and some on screen buttons are pressed.
Is this a problem with only my Z2 or a design fault. I'm gravely concerned that replacing it with a new one is going to cause the same issue. For a phone that cost me an arm and a leg I wasn't expecting problems that I never had with any other phone.
Please help.
Thanks.
I thought I had this problem, but then this morning I had an important call to take and thought I'd guarantee that I wouldn't have problems by putting the phone onto speakerphone.
Annoyingly, despite no part of me touching the screen, the phone STILL ended the call of its own volition.
Has anybody else had this happen?
I may try a factory reset, but haven't as yet because it's a pain in the backside having to back everything up first.

I installed a lock screen app during calls
this is great it stops any buttons been pressed during a call
the only thing I have found is that the notifications bar is not locked and this is the main problem for me the quick settings gets opened and bluetooth/wifi/gps gets turned on or off which I can deal with its just when airplane mode gets hit!!!
same here
I have this problem with my Z2 too. It's galling that after spending £500 on a mobile "phone" it turns out to be near useless when it comes to performing its most basic function. For example, it's hugely frustrating to have paid a high per-minute rate queuing in a company's telephone system only to have all sorts of buttons being pressed when I finally get through to someone. It's one thing to find an edge-case problem in a product when it's as complicated as a smartphone, but for something as fundamental as this to be broken beggars belief. I'd like to tell whoever is responsible for this product exactly what I think of them and their phone. It seems to be a recurring theme with Sony that they churn out products in their dozens but have poor quality when it comes to usability and even worse customer service when something goes wrong. I hate companies that simply give pre-scripted answers or ask you to factory reset their broken products each time, surely a customer support representative should have basic problem solving skills or the ability to apply common sense to a situation. Sony, how about releasing products less frequently but getting them right rather than releasing two per year and screwing up at least one major thing on each. I'm now just waiting for the "waterproof" covers on my phone to snap off or my camera to overheat after a couple of minutes use again, just as apparently the Xperia Z, Z1 cameras did. Pathetic. I'm going to vote with my feet and next time buy Apple again, at least they have good customer service when things do go wrong.
i updated to firmware 314 recently, i dont know if this problem went away, but on the old firmware, the screen keeps litting on during a call and random presses happen, making various problems.
i didnt have the phone away from my ear, just in case you usethis as an excuse. the only way to go through it, is to lock the phone through the side btton during a call.
