On-screen buttons getting pressed during calls

Hi all,

First post here. I just bought my z2 and I absolutely love it but am deeply disheartened and concerned by one problem I'm having which pretty much is the most important thing I need.

Almost every time I make a call - the mute, speaker, end call or other buttons get pressed while I'm talking. I've tried to make sure that the proximity sensor is covered by my ear and it still happens. I've also run the diagnostics and although they pass I've noticed that the vibration for the proximity sensor test does not always stay on if I put the phone up against my ear and move it around. Eventually the vibration turns off and some on screen buttons are pressed.

Is this a problem with only my Z2 or a design fault. I'm gravely concerned that replacing it with a new one is going to cause the same issue. For a phone that cost me an arm and a leg I wasn't expecting problems that I never had with any other phone.

Please help.

Thanks.

So finally I conclude my part in this thread. The Z2 was my first Sony phone. I loved it more than any other. The battery life, the design ethos, the aesthetics, the accessories and sound quality, the attention to detail - it was all perfect with one exception - the problems I had. First buttons got pressed unintentionally. And now an hour ago my beloved Z2 died and now won't come back on. I just got off the phone with Amazon. They've arranged a return of the phone and my accessories. I turned on my old Nexus 5 to start using it again. It immediately prompted me to upgrade to 4.4.3 which I did do. I tried my best to stick with my Z2 Sony but the screen sensitivity, the lack of forum assistance, the untimely death and the fact that two firmware updates were released neither of which I got really hit my faith hard and at this point out of fear I doubt I will go Sony again for a very long time. Thanks for your help guys. Good luck.

Is this real, or am I dreaming? The post, claiming the unsatisfied user is never buying Sony again is MARKED AS THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM!!! Is it really the solution, Sony?

Looks like it. I've just come here thinking that there's a solution but clearly Sony think it's better if we send our phones back and get a replacement. What do you reckon Sony? Galaxy S5? HTC ONE M8. iPhone 5S? I've used all of those and never come accross an issue.

All - I've marked my post as "not the solution" as it seems to have caused a lot of confusion which certainly was not my intention. I didn't mean to mislead anyone or cause any offence. I was just relating my tale and by marking it as my solution I simply meant to say that for me this is no longer a problem but others may have it. Anyway, for future forum visitors this is now marked unresolved. Thanks.

Hi all, especially Sony.
I had (have) the same problem.
This bug happend only when you set "Tap to wake up" and simultaneously "Power button ends call" in accessibility settings.
Then, when you make a call, you put the phone to ear, the display turn off and during call you sometimes make a taps with ear and after 3 taps you send power button signal, which immediately ends call.
But I like "Tap to wake up" function then I turned off "Power button ends call" and here is other issue: When during call (display is again turned off by proxymity sensor) after 3 taps, the display stay off, also after end call stay display turned off. And this is the problem.
I thig for sony the easiest way to fix this should by to temporarry disable tap to wake up when is proxymity sensor covered.
Thanks.

I've had the same issues, so I'm adding my voice to this... Pretty much every call I've had recently has complained about beeping noises (numbers being pressed by my ear) or has accidentally been put on hold, called somebody else, or disconnected.

I've noticed it to be especially bad after I use the on screen numbers (like "Press 3 for Customer Services" etc etc) then leave the numbers up. It's like when they are displayed the screen is still pressable despite being off. Doesn't seem as bad if I make sure the numbers are closed before putting it to my ear.

The proximity sensor itself works fine as far as I can tell, so it's not a hardware issue.
