Interface for making a call - help

Lovely new phone but...

Bought as it's the size I want it's waterproof, fingerprint etc. Couldn't try it out as I couldn't find anyone who had one so I got what I got...

I will use primarily as a phone with occasional email and medium browsing. Unlikely to use apps much but there will be a few.

I like the realtively uncluttered machine but I have a niggle with the phone function itself, i.e. making a call.

The app is unlike the ones I have used before on a droid, where contacts and phone are presented as integrated into one ap - essentially each icon as a different entry point.

Why, when I press the phone icon to make a call do I only get a display of a few recent calls - they are all multi-line. I rarely call recent calls, so this doesn't help me, but I can find no obvious way to default this to anything else, e.g. go to a call screen where I can type in a number. Is there a way to change this default? Essentially I end up making two selection presses before I can do anything.

Also in contacts, is there a quick way when you have a lot of contacts to get to a specific point in the list e.g. go to M. rather than have to press search, enter text etc.

Second I can live with if thats all there is but the first is driving me crazy.

...much as this message editor is! Nearly every time I press end of line key I get a # and an invite to enter a product name. Why?

I'm sorry, but this is Android (Aosp) Standard for all kind of Android modifications since 5.0 as far as I know. Most users will use this function as it is.

Try a third party app or Sony should make an extra setting for that.

Please go Safe mode and try again.

Normally both problems aren't problems and are possible.
There is a dial icon in the phone app. And if you want to go to "M" for example in contacts, you have to scroll the letters in the right to go there faster.

It will highlight the letters you want to go.

Thanks, the tip for contacts helps enormously.

Unfortunately the icon that you are describing is what I want to avoid. The behaviour that I would like to set up as default is that when I select the phone app it takes me straight to the dial screen.

As I said I rarely look at the history of who has called me, and I'd rather have the options the other way round.

However I can't see any settings in the phone app that deal with the screen interface so I'm guessing that it is what it is.
