According to who? Google or SonyMobile? Which of the two decided to make this change to how the sound enhancements work?
We would much rather disable the sound effects from third party apps and use the Xperia sound enhancements in all apps!

Exactly, this issue needs to be resolved, It worked fine before the update so clearly either Sony or Google have made a change or broken something.
I'm afraid i don't know for sure if this decision was made within Sony or by Google but as i understand it, the global Equalizer was removed in Nexus as well and i also found this: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/audiofx/Equalizer.html
"NOTE: attaching an Equalizer to the global audio output mix by use of session 0 is deprecated."
Hi,
I am seriously considering going back to the previous (kitkat ) system on my Z3 compact. sound quality was one of the main reason why I purchased a Sony and now it is gone with this bitter lolipop thing !!
Is reverting back to kitkat technically possible? If yes, what are the potential shortfalls of it, please?
Regards
Sal

Hi and welcome to the community!
As mentioned earlier, the equalizer is still available for 3:rd party apps but it's now up to the app developer if they want to use it or not. If the application you use doesn't use it i would recommend that you contact the developer of the app to see if it's something they can add.
It may be possible to downgrade the phone using 3:rd party tools but it's not something i would recommend and changing the phones software using 3:rd party tools may affect your warranty. If it's something that you still want to do i recommend that you check http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/bd-p/22051
I am very disappointed with sony.I'm sure many regret updating now that they noticed it's rather a removal of features. The only good reviews is about notifications which is stock android anyway.
Also users who have updated have no way to go back to kitkat even at a service center. They either root or they are stuck with it.
Dim my wallpaper, I can just change my homescreen and live with a darker lockscreen.
But clearaudio+ getting limited to only a few apps? That's a ridiculous way to get rid of one of the best features this phone has, Sony.
So much for "best audio ever on mobile" (quote from official z2 advertise video) More like "best audio ever on local media player and 3 more playstore apps on mobile!"
Now people say camera is bit better in speed so is battery life.Kitkat needs improvements on both but the above issues is a game changer for me.
Hi Ricard,
Thanks for your prompt feedback. However, I have to tell you that I am deeply dissapointed. (Nothing personal pls) We are talking about SONY here ! SONY cannot and should not simply throw the ball on the end user's court like this. Why? Simply because, that functionality was avaliable before the Lolipop, but now it isn't ! That simple ! Why would I go to the developers of several applications myself?? That really does not make any sense at all.
I definitely believe it is a SONY responsibility: after all; how often do you hear that things go worse after an UPGRADE ???? Would SONY wante to be known as a world leader in this area??
I trust reasonably responsible decision makers at SONY would take this as a serious threat to customer loyalty - like I do ! I was so happy that I found the perfect device after having used Iphones for the past 4 years - but my happiness lastd pretty short.
Best regards
I can't believe Rickard would even suggest a Sony customer to talk to 3rd party app developers to fix an issue that clearly was a result of a system upgrade that came from SONY.
It is true that the Lolipop upgrade resulted in massive fails and issues. This forum should be monitored by SONY or its represenatives to "listen" to us and actually do something to resolve the issues. And not for us to find our own solutions to the problems resulting from the upgrade.
Upgrades should be as it says, UPGRADE. Meaning, the new system should be better than the previous one.
I often see recommendations to repair using PCC. For me this is just a remedy but not actually fixing the root cause of the problem. Yes, it may help and resolve issues of each user. But if the software version and the program itself is not revised, the problem or shall I say, the root of the problem still remains
I dont know if SONY can read this but, they really should be reading the forums and take action.
I too am experiencing this issue and am exteremly dissapointed with this so called update which has made the audio settings/equaliser useless and a dead function to my 3rd party apps. AND NO IT IS NOT THE USERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT THE APP DEVELOPERS!!!
Just another way of big companies screwing with their customers and very "apple-esque" to only make an in house app like Walkman to only now work with the audio equaliser!!! One of the main reasons we all purchased the Z3 has now been removed with this "UPDATE"...
SONY, a please explain here is a massive understatement!!!
