My Xperia Z1 Compact keeps losing its connection to Wifi networks, and once it does I cannot reconnect to any Wifi network without once turning off and turning on again the Wifi (on the phone).
Even when lose its connection, it will show the Wifi access points with full signal strengths in the available AP list, but tapping the connection button will not do anything. No error message will appear, but it will not connect either.
None of the settings related to Wifi (wifi connection during sleep, wifi optimization, stamina mode, etc), regardless of its combination seem to make a difference. The same go for the Wifi setting on the AP, nor the model of the AP seem to make a difference (and I've tried with at least a dozen AP, but public and private with various security settings).
The only way to reconnect is to first turn off the Wifi and then turn on again, which is simply frustrating given how often it happens for such a basic functionality.

Yes, I've tried all combination of the above with no change in the situation.
I am not sure it will help but did you also try a software repair?
Yup, I've tried software repair and firmware update with no improvement in the situation.
The same symptom continues.
After further testing, it seems like this issue occurs when I leave a WiFi area, and then come back within the range of same or different AP/router.
That is, it looks like my connection is stable as long as I stay within the area covered by existing registered routers.
However, the moment I leave this area, the WiFi lose its ability to connect to another AP, including the one it was earlier connected to. I need to turn-off and then turn-on the WiFi before it can reconnect, regardless of the phone's power and network setting as far as I can see.
The issue seems like a software one, as my friend's Xperia Z1 also exhibits this issue.
Have anyone else seen this issue?
Well, you only need to turn off and turn on the wifi on the phone, which is much less of a hassle than doing this for the router.
That said, it really is a pain having to A) check whether the wifi is working and then B) do the wifi reset every single time you use the device in the wifi area. I'm definitely using a lot more mobile data than I need to because I don't remember to check every time.
What's really frustrating is that this is an issue that is very easily caught during testing, and it makes you really wonder about the QA process within Sony. It's a very basic issue, and I really wish Sony focused on improving the quality of individual models instead of releasing half a dozen model a year.
I've noticed a lot of small niggles with this phone and its related software, though this is the most annoying. It's such a shame because it's a nice phone with a lot to like. It really feel like death by thousand cuts. I really hope the issue is fixed soon.
I have this problem too on my Z1compact and for sure it does not depend on the router because it happens with all the networks while other devices get and stay connected pretty good. I also followed the instructions from the link posted by alexdon but no results. Since the Z1c is having a few software problems (i'm also experiencing the notifications and rigtones shattered sound issue and experienced the calls going to loudspeaker on answering) I would suggest Sony to carefully check for software problem before suggesting me to visit an assistance point for hardware repair... that's a matter of statistcs, isn't it?!?
Anyways, I am still waiting for someone out there to help me with issue
