Do not use under water

When did Sony change their statement on using Xperia pruducts under water? They used to say up to 1.5m in depth for a few minutes, now it clearly states do not use under water.

Also noticed this is now the advice for previous products that used to say it was OK to use under water, not just the latest Z5.

Sony products are no longer water proof (what I thought anyway). Watch out!

Hi,

I think that touch-screen cant work underwater. This is the same with all touch screens..

if you have a water resistant phone without separate camera button, you cant take underwater pics, because touch screen doesnt work.

Nevertheless, Sony Z5 compact IS NOT water resistant, it has only IP65 classification, so this doesnt apply to sony.

The warranty way of looking sony is ip65 as almost any other mobile on market, nothing special here.

This makes me sad because I purposely bought the Z5C to replace my XCover2, which replaced my XCover... I've been dunking my phone and throwing my phone around for the past 4 years... I have to try and break the habit... I'm probably definitely not going to try a drop test like I did with the other two

The Xperia Z5 range are all IP68 certified... Which does mean they are waterproof, do your research before giving false information.

I have a Z3 and recently bought a Z5 compact for my daughter. I am very disappointed with your misleading lable that it is a waterproof phone. My daughter took two pictures in the pool at the surface of the water (not even submerged deep into the pool), and the phone was spoilt.

When we check the details, we found all these fine prints everywhere saying that the phone cannot be exposed to chlorinated water. If your test is right, whether it is chlorinated or not, it should not matter. Your company is just hidind behind legally crafted words. You lost my respect. The compound and the density is still the same whether it is chlorinated.

Please do not make claims that the phone is waterproof. Perhaps should only say that it is splashproof.

I am now very upset. Now my daughter has a useless expensive phone.

Hi Thong,

Welcome to the community,

I am sorry to hear about the issue. In such a case we suggest contacting Sony Mobile Customer Care, they will be able to arrange for the device to be vacuum tested. Use my signature below to find the contact details.

Hi

Regarding the undrewater usage,My phone was cleaned under a tap(and yes before you ask the side ports was checked for proper seal)The phone is less than 6 month old and got damaged.Problem i'm having is that they say its waterproof-not water resistant. The best of all is the repair centre did not do a 'VACUUM TEST"as they should have to start of with and they now just assume my warranty is void!Makes me sick.Phone is allready striped so how do they now proof if its abuse or defective device?Been struggling for more than 2 months to sort out this issue. My damp stickers on side ports still original colors and was shown to repair centre before attempted repair.

Good phone exept for the misleading waterproofing qualities

Any one with some advise?

Hello everybody,

I'd like to share my story with you regarding my Xperia Z5.

I've bought the phone and after 3 days the display flickered. I've sent it back and Sony decided to send me a new phone.

I've used this phone for one month and once it was for a couple of seconds in the water (no salt water, cap was closed, approx. depth of 10cm). Suddenly the screen was black and it started vibrating randomly.

Therefore the phone was sent back to Sony. The workshop made a leak test (result: phone doesn't leak out) and claims that I've used in a wrong way. At the same time Sony offered me to replace the device for 428,99 Euro. Of course I contacted the hotline, who couldn't help me and refers back to the workshop and eventually even kicked me out of the line.

You cannot believe how disappointing this is for me. Definetily the last time I've bought a Sony product and I advise you not to test the waterproof functionality of your phone!!!!

Did this also happen to anyone else beside me? What can I do? Who can I contact with my issue???

Regards

Florian

I bought the Z5 Premium and I am a Sony fan since the Xperia Z1. I also have the Z3 and MV4 Aqua. When I first bought the Z1 I bought it only because of it's water resistance. Now Sony says that we must NOT put the Z5 Premium underwater (despite the fact that it has a higher water resistance certificate than the Z1) but you say in this comment ''we recommend not submerge our Xperia Z5 in water''. For me this is kind of questionable and I don't like it at all. I love the Z serie and I want to keep buying Sony's flagship smartphones in the future but this kind of change of underwater policy could eventualy change my decision when I am starting to think about buying a new smarthone.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope you will always keep making better and better smarthones in the future Slightly_smiling_Face

What is the case for a Z3+
Are they classed as waterproof as I'm about to send mine in for repairs it has never been under water but I just wanted to be clear for the future as the phone is only 2 weeks old and they did ask had it been in water so I do really need to know for the future

Kind regards
