Do not use under water

When did Sony change their statement on using Xperia pruducts under water? They used to say up to 1.5m in depth for a few minutes, now it clearly states do not use under water.

Also noticed this is now the advice for previous products that used to say it was OK to use under water, not just the latest Z5.

Sony products are no longer water proof (what I thought anyway). Watch out!

chlorine makes the seals brittle? Really? All tap water contains some tho

it's all I had while I was out in the city at a dinner...

I was also mostly joking... I could've said hydrochloric acid... there's nothing in the manual about pH level.

Which would you prefer me to change it to?

I use my Z5C in the shower frequently and have used it in the sea with no issues. It works better in water than previous iterations of xperias as the screen was previously unusable with water on it.

Hi i have a Z3 on contract for a year and half but unfortunately tonight i dropped it in a bucket of water, all flaps where closed and secure and i took it out very quickly.  Now my phone does not work properly and can clearly see water behind the screen.  I purchased this phone because of Sony advertising it was waterproof and thought it was a good idea to get this phone as i am a cleaner and incase of any accidents i knew the phone would be ok.  Clearly NOT,  now i do not know who is responsible for the false advertisment and what i should do with the phone.  Could someone please give me some advise

Just to add to this topic,

When I originally bought my Z3 in Feburary 2015 it was marketed as IP68 Waterproof/Dustproof, and the new material available now calls it IP65 / IP68 Waterproof and Dust tight.

The ad at the time showed a guy hiking in a wilderness area, and then submerging the phone into a small creek while taking video above water and then underwater... Can't seem to find the commerical anywhere now.. But there are several on YouTube still that clearly show the phone being shoved underwater and taking pictures and video.

Sony has changed its stance on the Xperia phones and the main selling point in which I bought the phone. I for one will probably not buy another Sony phone because of this. Now it all seems to be false advertising, but those of us with the phones are locked into contracts.

Clearly you are better off going with another major brand that offers proper waterproof cases

*** The Xperia Z3 is waterproof and protected against dust as long as you follow a few simple instructions: all ports and attached covers should be firmly closed; you can’t take the phone deeper than 1.5 m of water and for longer than 30 minutes; and the water should be fresh water. Casual use in chlorinated pools is permitted provided the phone is rinsed in fresh water afterwards. No seawater and no salt water pools. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The phone has an Ingress Protection rating of IP65 and IP68. To see what this means and for more information see www.sonymobile.com/durability

Hello everyone,

My phone stopped to work, after little spatter.

The waterproof on these phones don't work enough.

Actually I found this phone, my apologies for that

The Xperia Z5 it is water-resistant as long as there are no physical damages and/or the SIM/SD card cover it's firmly closed, contact your Local support and request a vacuum test, why? because it will prove who is at fault, if you have a defective device or if you didn't firmly closed the flap, assuming there isn't physical damages to the device.

of course every cover had firmly closed.
I'am gona go to waranty service.
Anyway the Xperia says that the z5 has IP68, but they say the device keep under water is not allowed. What the bosh?
follow the link http://www.reinmedical.com/en/knowledge-technology/ip-protection-classes.html
everyone knows ip68 means keep your device more than 1m under water at least 30 minuts without problems.
If the Z5 can not survive this test get out of ip68 standart!!!
It's my position. I gona go to servis,to supplier, and to judge if it's required
