Custom notifications and ringtones unavailable any more

I cannot pick when this happened but it was within the last week, but the custom notification and ring tone I had set reset to the defaults, and the phone no longer sees them in the list.

Originally they sounds (wav and mp3) were in Notifications and Ringtones directories in the main storage directory, but I've moved them into the Music subdirectory from a which I found online, but I still don't see them in the list.

The only thing I've done recently is to update the built in "Themes" app.

Has anyone else discovered this and been able to resolve the issue?

Actually, funny you mention it as a restart seemed to have worked without even looking for the .nomedia file.

I restarted the phone between messages and selection is now available.

Bug somewhere I guess.

@Syncr0s Have you tried settings-apps-all, tap on 3 dots and reset app preferences?

I hadn't. I have and no change.

It's as though media storage and sound picker have lost some settings or ability to see those locations

Ok, the folder either has a .nomedia file in it or you can clear data for media storage under settings-apps-all, then restart the device.

Sometimes the media might not be indexed right away, especially if you have lots of media files. I guess it was just a glitch Thinking_Face

As I mentioned, these were not new files and were used as notifications and ring tones previously.

They just stopped being available (as in all files in the custom locations were not being indexed or something).

I do note though your comment about the indexing of media not being immediate, and many times I do need to reboot before the media becoming recognised in the music player app (caveat: I have not added more media since the music app was updated last).

Reboot resolved the issue though.

I have this problem; I had set a piece of music as my ringtone, but now the option to select from my music has vanished. @alexdon; if I select 'reset app preferences' what will this do to any settings I have selected in my apps; won't it wipe them all out? I also don't understand this advice as the ringtone function is not an 'app'; it's an inbuilt part of the phone, isn't it?

@AliWonder resetting app preferences will only revert the default actions that you have set up for specific apps.
