I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra, it used to charge amazingly with Sony chargers but a few times i have tripped over the wire whilst charging it and the usb has come out.
Now if i use a Sony charger i have to move the nib around for it to charge which it doesnt do anymore at all, the battery on this phone model is generally bad.
The charging port needles look okay visibly but clearly something is wrong with it.
I have tried using different new Sony chargers but it doesnt do anything.
However there is an old Samsung charger of my colleagues which charges my phone but it's still not a snug fit to charge the phone.
Can anyone please advise what might be wrong with it and what i can do about it?
How much would it cost on average to get it fixed by a phone shop or a retail phone shop even?
I need desperately some advice.
Hi @SH1212, welcome to our forum and I'm sorry to hear about this.
You mention that you have tried different chargers, does that include different cables as well?
If you have tried different cables, it does sound like it is hardware related based on the information you have provided and your phone will need to be examined at an authorized service centre.
Your Local support team will assist you further with arranging a repair and they may also be able to give you an estimated cost for the repair, however in most cases the device will need to be examined first so I can't give any guarantees that they can provide you with an estimated cost.
Let me know how it went!

Please find full details below on recent problem:
I have had my Sony Xperia Z Ultra for 3 years and had no issues with it until recently in the last 2 months.
I had my phone on charge overnight and woke up in the morning with my whole battery drained to nothing at all. I tried turning it on the red light blinked 3 times.
So I put the phone on charge using the original Sony USB & Sony Plug, with no luck at reviving the phone even after an hour. So I connected it to my PC and after 30 mins the phone came on with signs of charging. However it was charging at a ridiculously slow pace, so I charged it to the wall plug charger but had to reposition the cable port for the red charging light to come on.
I did a big factory reset on my PC and backed up all the data.
Which seemed to work for a few days but then the charging situation got really bad.
The issue with this is that I can leave the USB in the position it will charge but then maybe after an hour the phone would make a noise that the charger has disconnected but it was still in the phone.
Over the last 2 months this problem has gotten worse, to a point the phone recognises the charger for about 2 minutes then makes noise of disconnection.
I have tried so many new chargers both the plugs and USB cable with no change in the phone condition.
One day I tried at work using my colleagues charger which is has the new Samsung fast charge plug (Samsung Travel Adapter, Model ATA-U90UWE, Input 100-240V, 50-60Hz, 0.35A) but the USB cable is an extremely old fashioned original Samsung one, it works perfectly for all phones no issues at all.
First I thought it might have been the charger but a few days in using this charger which is the only one my phone will recognise and will keep the port in, a new issue arose.
I have turned off my entire internet and NFC functions and turned my phone fully off to charge.
However the phone charges as a slower rate than an average phone. The red light shows as charging but phone keeps restarting every time I plug in the charger. Sometimes the bolt doesn’t show up but the green battery sign shows as charging, at some point the percentage starts decreasing by 5%.
So I contacted Sony for advice and was told to do the big reboot by holding the Volume up + Start button together until the 3 vibration noises happens successfully. First time I tried this phone drained even more quickly whilst on charge, every time I pulled the charger out and re inserted it showed a different percentage – when I turned it on to do the reboot again it showed higher on the phone. Once I did the reboot again and plugged into charge the phone worked normally and charges faster.
I need to know whether it requires:
I don’t have any warranty on the phone as it has expired so I am hoping the repairs will be at a reasonable price.
Hi again, thanks for the great information.
It is very hard to say what the cause is and that is why the phone needs to examined at an authorized service centre and they will be able to say what part(s) needs to be replaced.
Since I work globally I'm not familiar with the service routines in all markets, so I would recommend that you get in touch with your Local support team and ask them about local service routines in your market when the device is out of warranty.
