Xperia XZ keeps turning off

I have a brand new Xperia XZ and it just keeps switching off, if it's left idle it goes off and if I turn it to stand by it won't come back on properly. I can get the phone to reboot by using the power and volume buttons, but not the power alone. The phone was fine the first day I got it but the day after it was doing this and still is today, I'm not sure if it is a problem with the device itself or something that has happened after the recent update.
It's also taking a lot of battery each time it goes off and sometimes the phone seems to be completely off but will still have a light on, and also made the noise to indicate the phone was turning off yesterday when the battery died, despite already behaving as I'd it were dead.

If all this happened after a software update, please try to restart your phone in safe mode just to rule out an hardware issue however my personal recommendation is to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion

Hi @CLW,

Welcome to the community,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have.

I agree with @YoGem in this case, in some cases, an update may not install correctly which can cause issues with a device.

Running a backup and then a software repair would be one of the best steps to take to help rectify the issue.

backup using Xperia Companion

I've downloaded xperia companion, backed my phone up but it's now not letting me do a software repair. The message I'm getting up reads 'something went wrong with the software repair. Please try again later and contact sony support if the error persists'. Tried it several times now and I'm just getting the same message every time Slightly_frowning_Face

This is very unfortunate, have you tried restarting your PC and then performing the task?

You could also try removing Xperia Companion and reinstalling as this could be an install issues, just make sure to restart your PC after an install.

Let me know how you get on.

-SonyXperiaSupport and I just had an epiphany, try removing the SD card and check if the phone will hang and eventually turn off. If it doesn't happen the issue is the SD card. If it keep failing, try removing the SIM card and check if the device keep shutting off, if it doesn't the issue is the sim.

Let me explain, the SD card may be damaged and not able to restore its active status hence crashing the power subsystem and turning off the phone. The sim card... It's like a computer, believe it or not.. If the sim is not able to return to its active state it can also crash the system and eventually shut off the phone...

Just to rule out whatever problem, try to perform the software repair with the SD and sim card out.

Let me know!!!

Great info @YoGem, this could very well be related to the SD card or SIM card I should have checked this.

Let us know how you get on @CLW

Tried everything, nothing is working. I've had enough the phone is getting sent back. Really annoyed with this, it's a brand new phone.

After trying every which way imaginable to try any fix this, removing things, installing things, uninstalling things etc. I rang my network, who then put me through to Sony who said I should send it for repair.
And then it just randomly started working again.
Confused as ever but pleased.
Thank all you lovely people for your help Slightly_smiling_Face
