Xperia XZ keeps turning off
It's also taking a lot of battery each time it goes off and sometimes the phone seems to be completely off but will still have a light on, and also made the noise to indicate the phone was turning off yesterday when the battery died, despite already behaving as I'd it were dead.

If all this happened after a software update, please try to restart your phone in safe mode just to rule out an hardware issue however my personal recommendation is to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion

Hi @CLW,
Welcome to the community,
I am sorry to hear about the issues you have.
I agree with @YoGem in this case, in some cases, an update may not install correctly which can cause issues with a device.
Running a backup and then a software repair would be one of the best steps to take to help rectify the issue.
Let us know how you get on.

This is very unfortunate, have you tried restarting your PC and then performing the task?
You could also try removing Xperia Companion and reinstalling as this could be an install issues, just make sure to restart your PC after an install.
Let me know how you get on.

Let me explain, the SD card may be damaged and not able to restore its active status hence crashing the power subsystem and turning off the phone. The sim card... It's like a computer, believe it or not.. If the sim is not able to return to its active state it can also crash the system and eventually shut off the phone...
Just to rule out whatever problem, try to perform the software repair with the SD and sim card out.
Let me know!!!
