When setting up Google Pay I get an error message stating that I cannot pay in shops as the phone has been rooted or altered in some way, but this is not the case. I have completed a factory reset and a software repair but the problem persists. The support team cannot resolve this issue and require me to send the phone for repairs. Does anyone else experience this issue?
PS: I bought my phone in South Africa and have since moved to the UK.

Hi, after a few hours it downloaded the latest Android Xperia System update - after installing that Google Pay worked fine.
So no more issues now!
All good.
Having a similar issue. Bought a brand new sealed phone not locked to a network in the UK,to use in Uk. How do we fix this Sony? I'll be obtaining a refund if you can't resolve the problem.
Bought my phone brand new from Amazon with latest Oreo and also does say that phone cannot be used for in-store payments because of root modification in OS, so clearly this is an issue because Sony modified the standard Android built. Also hoping for a hotfix soon.
