Xperia Z3 screen crack

Xperia Z3 screen crack

I just bought in less than a week. I also bought a case that covers both front and rear, and I install a screen protector.

I keep my phones (this one and the old one, HTC One X+) in my sling bag along with my laptop. Yesterday, I just realised that my Sony Xperia Z3 screen crack.

Is it possible that the screen can crack by itself or probably with some VERY VERY minimal impact? I have never had this problem before with other phones, Samsung, HTC, Iphone etc! This is a total disappointment, the quality is very bad! The screen is very fragile! After yesterday only I noticed that many people experienced the same!

I will not encourage friends to buy this phone! I have not taken the phone for repair at Sony store yet, but I am very sure it is not covered under warranty! I just use it for less than a week, this is ridiculous.

Can I have some explaination from Sony management?

You need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Are you sure it is covered under the warranty? I will take it to Sony service centre tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I remembered I was told that the warranty doesnt cover screen broken / crack / shattered.

My understanding is that your local Xperia Care will investigate your situation and decide if its a manufacturer issue or owner's fault (which is the vast majority of the cases)

I like this phone, due to its size and having the top specifications.

So my plan is to hold onto it, but if it cracks, I'll get it fixed under warranty and ebay it immediately and get a Nexus 5.

  • Three weeks old Z3 Compact.
  • Screen protector on front and back.
  • Phone in Rugged Protective Armor Case.
  • Wake up one morning to discover the screen cracked overnight.
  • Cracked screens are not covered under warranty.

This was my very first Sony phone. Before then, I had the Moto X, Galaxy S4, S3, Moto Atrix HD, iPhone, etc. This is the first time I've ever experienced an issue like this. And it's very concerning to me - I want to like Sony, and I want to embrace the Z3 Compact - as the only 'normal' sized flagship phone currently available.

However, there seems to be a severe quality control issue present at the outsourced Sony factories in China: Pink spots in photos, units that self-destruct front/glass panels, units that are not actually waterproof, headphone jacks that wiggle loose, etc.

While it is true that all electronics are expected to have a certain percentage of failure rates, what apparently differentiates the Z3 Compact from other phone brands, is Sony’s inability to admit fault and take responsibility for the issue.

Though I am not going to make some grandiose statement of "never wanting to buy Sony again", I will say that I am deeply concerned about the quality of Sony products, and that will make me pause when considering my next Sony product purchase.

In the UK take it back to the seller DON'T return it to Sony. You have far greater rights with the seller than the manufacturer. I made this mistake with my self cracking 5 day old z3 compact. After Sony intially saying they would fix it under warranty they sent me a bill. I refused to pay and they agreed to return the broken phone.

Three weeks have passed since then I have still not received the broken phone back. I have been in contact with Sony 4 times to ask were it is. Each time I was promised they would sent me tracking information, no tracking or phone have been received.

Today I phoned again and I was told the same, I asked to speak to a supervisor/ manager but they refused. I emailedl in a complaint and asked today when I would be getting a reply. I was informed that they would not be replying, I asked to speak to a supervisor/manager, again this was refused.

Sony have had my phone now for over a month, I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever get it back.

+1.

I have the same issue.

Z3c is the best 'normal' phone on the market - specs are great, the size, waterproofness. But it needs to be good quality for that amount of money. My old phone was Motorola DEFY. Worked like a rock. I've dropped it many times and nothing happened to it. Especially no screen cracking.

**bleep**, SONY? I really expected better quality. I hope the corporate is reading these ports (and not dealing with the security problems). I was really debating between Z3c and Motorola G. Yes, it is not as good looking (or waterproof). But at least if MotoG dies it isn't as painful - just $200 as opposed to $450.

@N_JayZ

there have been lots of people who have experienced the phone self-cracking.

As Thommo said, Sony will decide if they'll repair it for free or not. If it's a single crack, they may well accept that it was not of your doing. Just make sure you communicate that it was ok one moment then next time you looked at phone it was cracked.

Do not even imply that you may have damaged it yourself - you will be undermining your argument.

If you got the phone via a carrier e.g. O2, you can return to them. They will just send to Sony on your behalf but you'll save yourself the carriage, even if it takes a bit longer.

Good luck to you. I fully agree with everything you've said btw. The phone does not appear to be as durable as other handsets on the market.

I really hope you get a good response from Sony about this.

Regards,

Gary
