Installing messenger brought an error code

I had to reset my Xperia to factory settings to download messenger why? It kept say error code -4 or something but I don't understand why I even had to reset it

1. Which messenger?
2. post a screenshot 
3. settings > storage > how much free internal storage does your phone has
4. are you using Playstore or another dubious website?

Sorry to hear about this issue. This could have been an issue with the Google Play store, this may have been resolved by clearing the data from the Play Store application.

Seems OK at the moment I had to factory reset it tho and I lost things like what's app and snapchat because my phone is blocked. I don't understand why I had to reset it anyway?
