Touch screen problem

Touch screen problem

I have had this Xperia X for one month now. (I had Xperia z3 compact before and didnt have this issue on it)

Since the first day i  had a feeling that touch screen is not as sensitive as it has been on my previous phones. When typing it often misses one key. Most often it ignores spacebar.  I thought that this was just "new keyboard" issue and I would "learn" to use it.

I was wrong though. After one month touch screen is still ignoring keys all the time.  Fast mobile games are impossible to play due this issue.

Is this a feature or is there something wrong with my phone?

Hi @tollo, welcome to our community!

I'm sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

I just tried the keyboard out on a Xperia Z3 Compact and a Sony Xperia X and I didn't notice any difference in the behaviour.

When you first received the phone, did you put on a screen protector? If you did, please try and remove it and see if the touch is working better.

If you don't have a screen protector or if there is no difference when removing it I'd recommend that you run the touch test in the service menu of your phone. To access this test open up the phone application and type in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service tests > Touch > Free drawing test. Can you draw on all parts of the screen in this test?

Let me know how it went! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hello Jonas and thanks for fast reply.

I have no screen protector on my phone. I have also tried this test as you suggested earlier and I tried it now also. Test doesnt indicate any problem.

It seems that problem appears generally everywhere when I use the phone, but it is notable when writing and playing because these need active tabbing on touchscreen.

Since you mention that it happens when you are typing, which applications are you using to type? Is it for example, the inbuilt messaging app? And how often would you say it happens, is it a few times per sentence or a few times per day?

If you experience this is in the inbuilt messaging application I'd recommend that you reboot your phone in safe mode. In safe mode open up a new conversation in the messaging application and start typing. Does it still miss the spacebar and/or other keys?

If there is no difference in safe mode the next step is to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. This will delete all data stored on the internal storage so it's important that you backup using Xperia Companion before you perform the software repair.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello Jonas and thank you very much for help.
This touch screen problem appears durin typing and using apps & games. Yesterday I played clash royale and durin 4 battles i had 7 isdues on deployment of troops. Also in clash of clans I messed up both of my attacks because several troops and spells werent deployed when I tapped the screen as I planned.
When typing these nonracting taps happen few times per day. But I dont write much.

I am using this SwiftKey keyboard application that was as default on phone.

I am typing this message with safe mode and i had just one ignored spacebar tap.

I have not tried this repair tool yet since i have no time to re-install all apps and emails that I use daily. Maybe I have time for this during weekend.

Anyways this problem is now even more irritating because I focus on it aal the time.

Kind regards tho

Hello again!

Thanks a lot for the great information. Slightly_smiling_Face

Since you experience the troubles with the touch screen in different applications and even in the inbuilt apps in safe mode my recommendation is the software repair.

I understand it's time consuming to install all the apps again and add your email accounts and such again, but I'm afraid there isn't anything else to try in this case.

Let me know how it works after the software repair and have a great weekend! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hello again Jonas.

Now after reading my previous message, which I wrote with my phone, I noticed that there were few typos caused by miss functioning  keyboard on touch screen.

I had time to try this software repairing tool and study my phone after "fresh start".

I installed only 2 apps after sofware repair, Facebook and Clash of Clans. Then I used my phone normally until this morning. This touchscreen problem was present all the time. Today I decided to install rest of the apps that I use, because problem seemed to be there anyways.

Thank You very much for the help. I hope You have some more tools in your pocket, because I'm getting desperate.

Thanks for the update!

Sorry to hear that you experience the same behaviour. Slightly_frowning_Face

I'm afraid the only recommendation I can give you in this case is having your phone sent in to an authorized service centre.

I will not be able to assist you with that since I work globally, however your Local support team are experts on your market and will help you with this and answer all your questions regarding warranty, service routines and so forth.

I'm sorry I weren't able to help you sort the troubles out.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Hi, I kind of have a problem with this too, it's only just started with me and I've been using smart phones for a while now lol, I have a problem with my fingers called Reynolds (it's like life has gone from fingers and go white) sorry to say but it could just be your fingers electro static has lowered, if all else fails you can buy gloves with special finger tips try them.
