Jeff/Martha,
Being a new boy to SE and the forum, I am just beginning to find my way around. I sent Martha a few questions earlier this morning and I look forward to the response.
As you will have gathered from my earlier posts I am anything but a fan of the Zylo and until I came across the various threads on 'Software' - Jeff this area seems to be your baby - I thought I was all alone in my criticism. I can't tell you what a relief it is after reading the various comments on Software that I am not alone in my criticism of SE - criticism that covers a wide variety of mobiles.
I really hope I am wrong in what I am about to say, but what comes over from personal experience and from the flavour of some of the threads, is that SE launch a product/software on a 'Oh let's just get it out' basis, then use the Customer to establish the shortcomings and then use this forum as feedback to the 'boffins'. I really want to be wrong but that is the feeling I had last night having had a week of the Zylo and it is an even stronger feeling after reading some of the threads.
I have a new found respect for Jeff & Martha as you 2 are the buffer between irate and frustrated Customers and a Company that ( and here I want to be wrong) does not care enough about the Mobile User otherwise faults/frustrations would not drag on for so long.
So please to dispel my concerns, can one of you provide me with answers to my earlier questions on,
'how do I stop the screen saver kicking in after 10 secs of non-use?' and
'screen orientation and colour formats'.
Respect to both of you.
Before I talk about the Zylo™ specifically, I do want to address your assertion that Sony Ericsson "use(s) the Customer to establish the shortcomings and then use this forum as feedback to the 'boffins'".
This forum is more about developing a community of Sony Ericsson users who can discuss products and share experiences and help each other! There are so many other users, of your same model, and many are very knowlegable about phones and can offer suggestions or workarounds that you can't get from official Sony Ericsson channels.
Email and Voice channels are still, and have always been available to report bugs, but the forum is not designed as a "bug reporting" channel - Jeff and I (and many others at Sony Ericsson) do read as much as we can, but we can and do miss things as well. Calling or emailing (even chat) is so much more direct. The Support Professional can take down the details of your issues, with your phone, where you purchased it, the software version, etc.
Often, if you have a particular issue with a product or service, we can help, but making a public statement in the forum about whether it will be "fixed" in an update is different and less likely - http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/ is a better place to find info about future updates and coming products' release dates.
And it is part of the power saving function of the phone that the display goes dark after about 10 seconds of inactivity. This is so in most Sony Ericsson phones.
Martha your points are noted.
Other than Dr Chris and PHssthpok from far off Italy, no one has come forward with any suggestions regarding the Zylo's operation, however EVERY but EVERY review I have read on the Zylo by Independents levels criticism at SE for their lack of items like the data cable and memory card; one even used the word 'unforgivable'. If that wasn't bad enough having read some of the discussions on 'Settings' in this Forum, I think my comments are a long way short of some of the comments, e.g. demanding answers from the SE Technical Staff rather than Jeff on shortcomings in other mobiles. If SE are not bothered about adverse comments from Customers and/or Independent Reviewers then why should I.
Thank you for advising me that there is nothing I can do about the 10sec Screen Saver. Can you please advise me on the other questions in my discussion item, e.g. screen orientation and colour, after which I will not trouble you or anyone at SE ever again and will end my contact with this Forum.
Neveragain
