SE support is telling me to through my Xperia in the trash

We've been going on and on in this forum about the different problems we have with Xperia x10 and i can't see any results to our posts. but i just has to let some anger and disappointment out.

My phone which is 3 months old has started to heatup, burn and go into restart loops. it has never been dropped and has no liquid damage what so ever... i came to this forum expecting answers and solutions but all i got was " take it to service"...Well, that's fine but now that i took it to service i found out that since i bought the phone from another country SE has no responsibility towards the phone .. they called me in the morning to tell me that they will take a look at the phone but i have to pay for labor and spare parts and in case the phone is unrepairable ( which might be the case based on the fact that it's a hardware manufacturer issue and alot of people are complaining of the same problem) then they have nothing they can do and i should just through the phone in the trash........................ i need to know what SE expect us to do:

1- the phone is under 1 year old so they know it's still under warranty.. but nooooooo, you took that phone out of your country of purchase then it's you problem.

2- they know it's their hardware problem..but noooo we can't do anything about it, you are far from your designated service center.

3- strange enough you call Dubai and a guy in Egypt answers which means SE  thinks of itself as an international company and it has all support areas connected , but when it comes to actually fixing a phone then no, a customer has to be where you want him to be.

4- this is a rip off and a scam. the guy in the service center told me that they replaced a phone for a customer from bangkok on the request of SE dubai.. so i guess bangkok is in the UAE.. or do you have to know one working in SE to get your phone fixed or replaced.

Well let's try to find the issue.

Go on the market and look for an application Killer I use the Task Manager (free) on the application check what's running on you phone. Experiment to kill some apps around and see if you phone cool down.

Heat management is a big issue over all android phones, even more on the old android version (1.5 or 1.6) because even though the work like a computer they are phones usually inside our pants inside leather cases (my case actually :-))

My phone too heats from times to time, and after reading your post o sniffed around the battery and also sense a burn plastic smell. Although my phone never entered on a restart looping I live in a cold region.

Let me know if that solved your case.

Best wishes.

Rhiscar.

logical idea.. my phone is in service now awaiting it's fate, so maybe that's something to check if it ever returned. on the other hand, I've been using a task killer from day 1, on the hope that it will reduce battery consumption, and all unnecessary application are not working. the other thing is that, it usually heats and show burn smell when it's charging and in my case that's actually when it's out of it's case.. the restart problem is most obvious when you try to charge and work the phone at the same time, at which point you will have to remove the charger and the battery and wait for it to cool, because if I tried to start it immediately the start loop will continue, which is also evident if I worked with the phone for long. So, although I think the apps and case issue is legitimate explanation of some of the heat , I don't think it is all that's there.

I think the best thing to do is to stop working on the device once in a while. Let it idle for a bit, cool down. tht should stop it from overheating that much.

Oddly enough, I have used the phone for the last 3 hours but no burnt smell at all..

two days ago i called the service center and the phone has main board problems indeed.. so i think i'm up for worst now..

I think that is probably for the best. If they replace your MB, then you'll have a good and fully functional device again, no?

it is for the best, IF they changed the MB.. Remember the part about if it's the MB then we can't do anything about it? Slightly_frowning_Face i'm still hoping that there will be a good outcome, but still waiting for a reply from regional SE support office.
