Pulling up contact list while in an active call

I recently purchased the Sony Ericsson Xperia x10, but I can't pull up my contact list while in an active call.  The tutorial states tap the application bar and tap the people, my problem is I don't have the 'people' selection on my phone.  Can someone help?  This determine whether I keep this phone or not.

When you are on the call double press the middle/home button and it takes you surprisingly back to your home, then just open your phone book and away you go.

If you want to retrieve the call screen, drag down the top notification bar and tap on the call.

You can also disconnect it with the power button on top of the phone if you have an X10 big.
