Help me improve this phone!!

Dear lord I don't even know where to start with the Vivaz Pro.

1. I can't transfer contacts in bulk from my C902 because "they run different operating systems". Worst translation of "we were too lazy to write the necessary code" I've come across. Thankfully I have managed to do this but it was a very painful experience. Makes me wonder why I didn't just get a Nokia since my 902 and Vivaz are so incompatible.

2. I can't control music (fwd, rwd, volume) while the phone is locked. Pretty rubbish if you're used to using these functions with a phone in your pocket (eg when out running, in the rain etc). Again, why is it so hard for SE to code this? Can *I* do this myself?

3. I can't access my 1,200+ tracks by typing the first few letters of the tracks name. For adding tracks to a playlist this is a horrific FAIL. SE excuse for this was that "the Vivaz has no keyboard". I asked, "what about the Pro?" and they didn't respond. I have tried to get my WMP playlists onto the phone but unfortunately I always get an error when I try and it never completes. So I'm stuck and not happy. Any tips on synching with media player? PC Companion (or whatever it is called) insists on installing Quicktime but I refuse to use this terrible memory-intensive software. There's got to be some way out...

4. The web browsing is shockingly slow. Even on basic pages. My C902 is faster so it's not the network. Is there something in the setting that I can tweak to speed up browsing.

5. Youtube playback is ridiculous. Once I had transferred by M2 card contents to the MicroSD it pretty much used up all the capacity and the phone told me that it couldn't stream from Youtube as there was not enough memory left. I have now bought a 16Gb MicroSD card and Youtube will play...but it buffers for 26 seconds and then plays for 6. Then buffers for 26 and plays for 6. This is NO WAY to watch a video. Again, does something need tweaking in the settings?

Is there a better media player out there for this phone? What about operating system? This phone is a major disappointment. Sorry for the long post.

1. On SE's site i think it says something that you can tranfer contacts from different phones.

2. No, those ahrdware buttons are often just placed on music based phones ex the 5310, tip, get the standby mode to "Sony Ericcsson", from there you have an music widget right on screen with rw pause and fw. 8i think there may be a program controling some buttons, not sure)

3. Why dont you just add the manually into the music folder?

4. Download opera Mobile 10.1 or Skyfire 1.5 (Skyfire is better if you want to watch flash videos, Opera is better if you want smoother, faster and better looking browser)

5. Watch through the built in browser or through Skyfire or Open Video Hub. have you checked your 3g/wi-fi speed? your might be on a slow connection/network.

6. There are a MASSIVE amount of media/music player e.g LCG Jukebox or PowerMP3.

And for the visuals downlaod a 3rd party theme, or Tsunami HS or the king of them all SPB Shell for Symbian, the last one brings 5-10 homescreens with chosable background, widgets, shortcuts etc

Thanks Anton123,

1. SE helpdesk told me themselves (after I'd tried several times) that the different OS means that the entire list of contacts cannot be sent via bluetooth. Had to use PC but it wasn't easy.

2. The C902 is not a 'music' phone. It's a Cybershot. The control buttons are the volume (even when the phone is locked, press and hold will either fwd or rwd depending on which you use. Single press will control volume. I can't even use the volume on the Vivaz to control the volume if the phone is locked).

3. Do you copy my playlist from my PC and paste into my Playlist folder on Vivaz Pro? Because the phone will recognise the Windows Media playlist but when I open it it says there is no music in it. It's all a bit rubbish really. And frankly it shouldn't be so complicated.

4. I shall try.

5. As 4.

6. Will have a look.

7. Can the Vivaz Pro control your PC the way the C902 can? Doesn't seem like it. Not so smart for a 'smart' phone, are ya?

Thanks.

You can control your pc by software, 3rd party apps, you can steer around in Windows and sen e.g emails.

Video streaming still choppy...can I allocate more memory for video streaming?

thats weird I have a Family Guy movie in Mp4, Bitrate 1200, and the resolution is HD (720p) 1280x720p

I'm pleased for you, I really am.

Perhaps your FG episode is downloaded on your handset/ card?

Discovered that my MSP has no agreement with SE to stream video and as such I pretty much can't. It has an agreement with Apple however, and that is why all my friends with iPhones CAN stream video.

Yet again, scuppered by the networks. .

Sorry for the late response I was working out Slightly_smiling_Face

No i downloaded Family Guy (the movie) from internet (yes illegaly)

it was in 720 p (1280x720p) and in .mkv format, so i downloaded a program called FormatFactory, converted the movie from .mkv to .mp4 with 1200 bitrate, and with the movies original resolution, it plays great on the Vivaz, in fact, the movie when it wasn't converted took up about 2 gb of space, and the converted 500 mb.

It plays great and i havent gotten any problems, the converting went fast and no problems has occured, and the best - the program is freeware.

It's WAY better than MediaGo, this is why :

1. It's output movie file is smaller than Media Go's.

2. The converting goes WAAAAAY faster.

3. The quality is better both sound and video wise.

4. The program is more stable and doesn't freeze/crash as Media Go.

5. It can convert more formats than Media Go (for e.g Media Go can't convert HD .mkv's).

Here's a link to the program, if you need more help, please don't hesitate to ask

Oh sorry, I FAIL.

You meant streaming, dang, have you tried it on a wi-fi network with these apps: YouTube (native) app, Open Video Hub app, streaming through the built-in browser, or strraming through Skyfire 1.5 ?

Yeah I meant streaming. Thanks for the download/ conversion tips though...I'm sure that will come in handy very soon.

Yes streaming over my wi-fi connection works a treat. However, when at home I'll use my laptop. Having said that though the battery on this handset is so bad that I probably wouldn't be able to watch very much on the move anyhow.

I've used the Youtube app, the built-in browser and Opera 10.something (as you recommended) and there's zero improvement. Although the Opera browser is generally prettier and easier to use.

I think O2 may be telling the truth when they say "Nay, you cannae stream video" ALTHOUGH SE told me that I needed to correct my streaming settings which O2 should be able to do. O2 at first had no idea what streaming settings were. I can't find streaming settings on the handset although the C902 had them in the settings menu. I can't believe mobile phones no longer come with user manuals.

And BIG bone to pick with O2, as unless this has changed over the past few years, Vodafone allows everyone, regardless of handset manufacturer, to stream video to their phones. Remember the whole Vodafone Live! mobile TV that never caught on? Even SAMSUNG phones could do it. O2 are travelling backwards on this one.
