Hey guys,
Some might be knowing this before. Try downloading ADWLauncher from Android market. It changes the complete UI of ur phone.
Make sure u change this setting to keep ADWLauncher working.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Home Sreen
Select Clear defaults.
Now when you press the Home button (Middle square button), It gives you options to choose from. Select ADWLauncher. U might notice the difference.
Wen i turn off and turn on my phone, SE puts the same default setting. So make sure u change the setting again.
U can have a number of home screens, customized widgets, custom shortcuts etc etc.
U can play with it by pressing the 4square button(1st from left) and select ADWSettings. I learnt by changing each setting to know what it is actually used for.
By the way, i bought my X10 mini pro a month back and I am pretty happy with it and this is my first android phone. I hope 2.1 update would have increased performance as well as UI updates as ADWLauncher.
I was checking my battery performance. I use auto sync, background sync, timescape update every 1 hr, gofacebook chat... and to mention brightness level Max, It would hardly last for 7 to 8 hrs. But wen i turned off background sync and data traffic, I got solid 2 days :smileyhappy:. After all its a 970 mAh battery... I am sure most phones would drain of ur battery according to ur heavy usage(Like I do). But I see certain apps running in background unnecessarily wen I see with miniTaskbar software(from Android market). I use to kill those apps which i don need at that time... I think the 2.1 update wud take care of tat :smileywink:.
Another alternative for ADWLauncher was LiveHome which had Homescreen transition effects(Cube, book, etc etc) and also a bigger dockbar. U can try tat too.
ADW rocks!!! Can I just add to your very detailed review of it that you can also download a little app called Home Switcher, which lets you flick between your SE Home and ADW, and then when you decide you can set your default using this app. This saves trolling through the menu's to swtich stuff on and off and clear data etc. I found this quite reassuring when starting out with a new launcher, in that if I get it and hate it will I ever remember how to set it back to the SE stock home.
There are some videos on Youtube of mini's with ADW on them, so have a little look. And I am sure if you have any more questions ronytom can sort you out, he looks like he's got it well and truly sorted!
Thanks for the info . But unfortunately for X10 mini pro, it didnt show up in Android market(atleast for me). I wud have to try other sources to download the app...
Sorry to say but I didn't like the ADWLauncher soooo much that I keep it instead of the X10 mini's own home screen setup.
I installed ADW tried it for 30 mins and I decided to remove it off.
Nothing against the ADW as such, it worked smoothly, but the default setup of X10 is already awesome.
The X10 mini's own setup is quite neat, useable and very tidy itself that I think things like ADW are really not required.
Maybe ADW will be a good option for the devices where default setup is compromising... but for X10 nothing of such kind is required IMHO.
Thanks.
Even I switch to default setup at times coz I love the SE UI. But for those who had experienced a diff UI in other brand phones with 2.1 or 2.2 OSs... AWDLauncher is an option on X10 and X10 mini family
There are a plenty of videos on youtube for AWDLauncher... I was impressed just by watching them
