Vaio VGN-C2Z/B lines on screen

Hi

I have a Vaio VGN-C2Z/B and it has stopped working suddenly. I turned it on one day and all I can see is vertical green blocks of lines/ flasing red and white lines........... I just about could see behind the lines and therefore attempted a recovery to try and sort the problem. However, part way through the recovery, the computer needed to restart and upon this happening, I am again faced with lines and then a blank black screen.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the problem might be and if anyone has expereinced this problem.

Many thanks.

Hi SP2009,

It is possible that your nVidia graphics chip has failed

.

Sony released a statement some time ago that some Vaio models, including your model, can have distorted video, random characters or blank  screen issues due to failure of the NVIDIA graphics chip.  If this is the cause of your problem (and it sounds to me that it is), Sony will repair the problem completely free of charge within 4 years of purchase.

If I were you I would contact Vaio Support discuss your symptoms.

You can read the Sony statement here: -

Contact Vaio Support (Mon to Fri) by going here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=0

and entering your model to sign in and then click on 'Get in Touch' -> 'click here for further contact options' -> enter your Vaio's  serial number -> telephone the out of warranty phone number.

Good Luck

i have this exact same problem.. same laptop..

funny thing is from official sony support they have a typo

http://genesis.sony-europe.com/instranet/ccil_sony/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=53420&l=en_GB&m=VGN-...

says

Applicable Models

•    VGN-FZ11x, VGN-FZ18x, VGN-FZ21x, VGN-FZ31x, VGN-FZ38x
•    VGN-AR11x, VGN-AR21x, VGN-AR31x
•    VGN-C1Zx, VGN-C1Zx
•    VGC-LM1xx, VGC-LM2xx
•    VGC-LT1xx, VGC-LT2xx

the 3rd line shld not list VGN-C1Zx twice.. (initially i thought my C2Z model wasnt covered)

doesnt help that im not in europe anymore..

will see what i can do and how good sony's international support is after all..

otherwise will have to use this laptop with a standard VGA driver forever.. and no option to plug to an external monitor / projector (which is pretty useless) since i use that for work all the time..
