problem with notebook left hand buttons

Hey folks,

I just recently purchased a Vaio AR41E last week and have a problem with the control buttons on the left side of the keyboard (volume control, disc eject, mute and S1/S2)

They worked fine for the first few days, especially volume control which i would use a lot mid games or programs, but now none of the buttons work at all when i press them.

I was wondering if I have accidentally somehow locked them so they are no longer doing anything when pressed or if it is a larger problem and they are actually maybe faulty. I consulted the user guide, but it really only told me what they did rather than change any settings etc.

any help or advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi Denzel_85 and welcome to the forum.

The functionality of these keys is controlled by some Sony Utilities and often a re-boot will correct the problem. As I assume that you have tried a re-boot I suggest that you download the Original Utilities Package for you model from here and then install:

1 Sony Utilities.
2 Sony Shared Library.
3., Vaio Event Service.

In that order, followed by a re-boot. Hopefully this will restore the function of said keys – you may need to repeat this process more than once.

If has no effect then try a system restore to a point when the keys did work, or alternatively re-install all of the utilities contained in the above download.
