Password problem. Brand new notebook

Call me stupid but I just brought home my brand new vaio vgn-n38e, switched it on and can't get past the password screen. It shows 'Password' as default and tells you it is an incorrect user name or password. None of the literature which comes with the laptop mentions any of this .

Is it a BIOS password or windows password..?

If it's a window password prompt you could try restarting your Vaio, when you see the sony Vaio logo press F10 repeatedly, this normally would start the recovery process and would restore your Vaio back to it's factory settings..
