Hi, everytime I try to login and chat onto skype my computer freezes and makes a horrible sound and I have to pull out the cord to turn it off. I have upgraded to SP2. But I have removed the windows firewall and re-installed most apps....I would really appreciate someones help... I am not a techy person...
Hi ladypip and welcome to Club Vaio.
What model Vaio do you have?
Are you using an internal or external mic?
What version of Skype are you using?
Hi,
my model is PCG 9L1M and I have the latest version of skype as i re-installed it. I think it's 3.5.
Sorry, the mic that I use I plug in. The weird thing is it used to work but now with skype and yahoo it just works for a couple of minutes then freezes and makes an awful sound.
Can you borrow another mic/headset to see if the mic is faulty or if it is your Vaio?
Hi,
It's not the mic or headset as I did a test on the computer yesterday. That is why I don't understand why it's not working. Very odd. I really appreciate you mailing me and trying to help me.
All I can suggest is to try turning down the microphone volume in Control Panel just in case it is set too high.
Can anyone help with how to do this? I think this is a PCG-FR315M Vaio which has an Analog Devices AD1981B 16-bit CD-quality stereo sound AC 97 2.3 soundcard.
However, it sounds to me like there is a hardware problem with sound output being fed back into the microphone socket and causing a noisy loop.
