Hi all.
I am considering (if possible) of upgrading the hard drive of my Sony Vaio VGN-A397XP.
Does anyone know how to open the case and what kind of disk should i buy?
If anyone has any ideas or can help me with this would be much appreciated
Hi geoder,
I have attached the manual for the A-Series to the botom of this post - it should help you replace your hard drive.
Also have a look at this tutorial which shows the opening of the case in more detail: -

You have a SATA hard drive in your Vaio - so any 2.5 inch SATA HDD should be OK.
A 5400 RPM HDD offers the best compromise between speed/noise/battery drain but a faster 7200 RPM will give the best outright performance. There is no such thing as a bad HDD these days but I would look at Seagate Momentus, Hitachi Travelstar (up to 250GB) or Western Digital Scorpio (up to 320GB).
Something like this perhaps?
