Have to reset Internet Conection on each boot up.

Hello all - each time I boot up my VAIO (model = vgn-n31m/w) the wireless internet connection doesn't work and I have to go into the Wireless Device Switch and run the 'diagnose' option to get it going again. It's also telling me that the 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless lans are not compatible, but the only option available is 2.4ghz.

Any ideas what I can do to avoid having to run 'diagnose' all the time.

Thanks.

Hi johnstr and welcome to Club Vaio.

Sorry to say this is a common problem with Vista which will (hopefully) be fixed when Vista SP1 is released. We are all having this problem to some degree.

All you can do is to download the Original Utilities for your model FROM HERE, extract the files to a temporary folder and reinstall the Wireless Switch Setting Utility.

Some have has success by disabling the WSSU in Task Scheduler.

I'm not sure if your model has the Intel PROWireless adapter or the Toshiba LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. If you have the Intel PRO Wireless, there is a driver update on the Intel site which seems to help.

Thanks for the quick response and as you say, it sounds like a Vista 'feature'. Let's hope that 'SP1' will sort it.

Impressed with this site.
