Changing batteries.

When no mains power is available, is there a way of changing batteries mid-session without powering down and rebooting please?

Clive

you could do a hibernate, change the battery and then turn the laptop on again. with the hibernation the laptop wont shut down totally so booting up is a lot quicker and the state of your computer will be returned exactly as it was when you initiated the hibernate. also the amount of battery charge used while booting up will be much less than booting from a shut down. other than this there is probably no other way as once you remove the battery from the laptop it will turn off

not sure if you're using vista or xp but the method is similar (i am guiding you in terms of xp). firstly go to the control panel and open the power options. click on the hibernate tab and make sure enable hibernation is ticked. once this is done all you have to do is goto start and click the shut down icon. then you will be presented with several options such as stand by, restart, turn off (something along these lines). if u hover over the stand by icon it will tell you to hold down a key to enable hibernation. simply hold down this key and click hibernate and thats it
