Yellow tint

Anyone else have a yellow tint on their display?? I have it quite bad on the bottom of the display and both left and right hand edges of display running from top to bottom. Is it possible with a firmware update that this issue could be eliminated. J had read on one forum that ICS update SHOULD solve it. Something to do with the colour calibration. I have also heard that it could be to do with colour temperature of screen,  or the glue that was used to put display together.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated as this is ruining my experience with this device.

Just contacted Sony US and they will not fix the yellow tint issue.  The rep stated

The Xperia™ S model is not under warranty for the United States market.

because it isn't available in the US even though Newegg.com is selling the US model of the Xperia S. UPDATE:  kept talking with the rep and provided my IMEI which she looked up and said was an International version but had a warranty permission for the United States.  Good thing I kept persisting.  Now to call and setup the return.

hi! im planning to buy an xperia S but im just wondering whether the yellow tint is a hardware or software related problem? or does the yellow tint pop up only when the device heats up or being used for a long period of time? any solutions for this and are all xperia S units are plagued by this yellow tint problem?

It's a hardware related issue. No sftware update can pach this up.

It shows up whenever the phone is heated enough, i.e., if you're runnin a graphic intensive application, or have been using it for a considerable time without a break etc.

Not all units are plagued by this. Only the ones which were manufactured early. There are some batch numbers or something which you can see to confirm whether or not your unit might be affected.

You can get those numbers in this thread, I imagine. Or wait till someone with more knowledge abbout this replies.

thanks for the quick reply dude, is it really wise to buy xperia S or wait for the international GX and xperia SL? any feedback from users here from the Philippines? are the units shipped here also plagued by this yellow tint? i really want the unit but the yellow tint is a major problem.

well, I'd recommend you to go for a newer generation of xperia and wait for early adopters to voice out their problem if there's any...you don't want to end up spending so much for a high end phone with problem(s)

and getting xperia s now doesn't mean that you'll be getting a yellow-tint free screen, depending on which batch you'll be getting. If you're getting early batches you'll end up having the yellow tint screen like some of us here and have the screen replaced, which makes you feel like getting a refurbished phone for a new-phone price tag.

Hi I am from India (Delhi).I bought Xperia S from the first batch of phones. And i was happy that it never had any yellow tints and the whites were just perfect and the display was so good. But some 1 month back concentrated yellow tints appeared.I had to travel with phone to Kerala (more humid then Kerala was) and when i got back temperatures were high and i think tis triggered the tint issue.Anyway went to Sony and they replaced the phone with a white phone. ( My original one was black). Also now the yellow tint seems to be like spread all over the screen (even though its not noticeable much)so that you cannot distinguish concentrated yellow tints..Like somebody pointed out in this forum Sony has now fixed the screen with more warmer colours i guess. And there is tad more concentrated yellows on the borders of screen.Overall the perfect white is lost and there is a slight yellow tint spread across the screen. Also dunno if this is the way they fix the screen or my refurbished product has got some probs. Are the newer batches any different? Can i demand a newer batch because i might demand a replace soon because i need the black coloured phone itself.I payed for the black phone not the white.Actually i am little frustrated while typing this because this is their flagship model and i didnt pay premium price to be annoyed like this.If atleast i get some good help from Sony's side i would be more than happy enough.Because still i dont want to hate Sony.So any luck with the newer batches? Anyone?

Hi.  Just like to share my opinion on your situation.  I believe Xperia LCD panels are yellow tinted, unlike phones produced by Samsung that are blue tinted. My own theory is that since Sharp is currently the only main producers of  LCD panel in Japan, their development is to induced yellow into the usual RBG light emission as in their TVs. Yellow tint  makes the pictures more rich and vivid. The downside is that anything white will be affected. I had my LCD panel changed by Sony and can see the depth between the original panel and the current one is different. I prefer the latter because words are more crisp and sharp, pictures appears rich. I do not think anyone can assure you which batch will be perfect as you read this thread some even got worst after a change. I would advise that you get back a black phone since that's what you originally have and take it from there.
