Xperia V dies often after upgrade to 9.2.a.2.5

I am so angry with my phone after having upgraded to 9.2.a.2.5 from a lower lever of 4.3. On the previous version it was quite stable. Now it powers off a lot, for no obvious reason. It seems to happen more often later in the day, when battery power gets lower. I have tried the following, but nothing seems to help:

  • Booted in failsafe mode. Was surprised here to find so many of my 3rd party apps still available???
  • Turned off 4G/LTE
  • Today I regret that I even made a repair in PC Companion. That way I lost a lot of my settings, and some apps, even though I made a backup just before and restored it after

One strange thing about the powering off is, that I lose my language setting from Swedish and it gets set to English. Funny?

One more thing. When it gets unstable like today, it powers off after I have entered the SIM pin, but before unlocking the phone. It often does that repeatedly. Battery was today about half charged. I've had this happen 3-4 times in a row, and the way to circumvent it is to start charing the battery. Then it works like it should.

So, I have ended up with a phone connected with a wire to the wall outlet again, just like in the old days. Mobility may be a thing I have to sacrifice:smileysmileywink:

I wonder if it is hard- or software. Since it started happening after having upgraded to 9.2.A.2.5, I still suspect it is the OS, not the hardware.

Still no comments? Anybody!

Hello!

I'd like to confirm the same problem. If battery drop below 50%, every heavy battery draining program that I run reboots the phone, until I recharge.

Problem seems to be highest when useing heavy draining progrmas, like games, or GPS or even Camera.

Before 9.2.A.2.5 update, I didnt face this problem.

First I thought that the OTA got somehow badly installed, but I did a clean SUS recovery and the problem continued.

So hopefully this problem gets fixed in the next update.

Yes, I agree, the risk of having an unexpected power off is greater if I use the GPS and the camera.

I'd like to confirm, that it seems to be the battery.

I downgraded my phone to 4.1.2 version and the problem was still there.

Just ordered a new battery. 🙂

I have the exact same problem, and to be able to use my phone, i switched off mobile data, and camera flash, can some one confirm if buying a new battery would solve the problem or it is a hardware issue, i re installed the firmware three times now, last time i fully wipe the internal sd card, factory reset before i re install the firmware again, when i add my google account, i disable the sync and reject the backup option in order to prevent any battery state restoration, and disable the app data in the account sync, but i still have the shutdown problem, and when the phone start, not only the percentage drop badly but also the number of hours being on battery get lose two hours or three!!!! Please help, this phone is only a year and half and i hate to buy one now,

Why tye battery issue shows after this update? Any one from sony please help

Hi, sorry to give you the final answer so late. It is now 3 months since I ordered a new battery, but it took 2 months to realize, that it had been lost in the mail. Ordered another (standard Sony battery), and have used it for soon a month. And everything works like a charm! So my problem was that the battery could not supply enough current. After changing batteries, the GPS in the phone is better - but not good. It still takes a long time for it to find its sattelites.
