Eventually I decided to use Wotanserver instead.  Still, thanks for the fantastic guide; I probably wouldn't have realized I could upgrade firmware myself without rooting otherwise.  Wotanserver just seems easier for noobs such as myself, plus it has firmware from different regions.  I'm not sure if they're planning to charge for it in the future, though.  For now it's free.

Thanks but in download link for 4.0.2.A.0.62 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444841 they provide a russian rom I guess. Is there any english version because I've already changed the language to english but some parts are still displaing in russian language. Can you please provide me a proper link for a english version of the firmware. my SI - 1261-7483

And additionally since xperia ray is not equiped with a hard "back" button alternative way is to press volume down button while connect to the usb which is not mentioned in "(turn off your phone, press the back button, then connect the USB)" step.

Hello, the new update of OS is disaster.

Start the phone takes longer time.

Menu changed and not as good as the old one.

If I could I would throw this phone against the wall.

Is it all the time the same.

We have something new we will change it.

It's really good to use. Refer the below thread if you want to root your phone and update to 4.1.B.0.587 Build.

@RossFen : I have the same Xperia Ray Phone and Followed the steps specified by Nabeel. Haven't faced any issues and got my phone rooted.

If you are facing any issue, Please provide more details.
