I purchased the new Xperia Neo V last Saturday only. As soon as I came home and started using the phone it started rebooting every now and then. I searched on internet and found that many people are facing the same issue with the same model. On Sony Ericsson forum they recommended to go for a factory reset and software upgrade. I tried both the things but it is exhibiting same behavior.
It doesn't reset when you're working on it but as soon as it goes in standby mode and I try to make it alive by pressing the Home key it restarts. I also observed restart issue while receiving calls.
At times, it resets itself continuously, when I keep it idle. The device screen gets dark then after some time the device splash screen reappears (the graphics that it shows while turning it on), then again a while it goes into standby mode and again the same cycle. I've noticed it resetting itself like this for more than 10 times at a go.
Earlier the phone had s/w ver 4.0.1.A.0.283 after updating it became 4.0.2.A.0.42
I urge you not to play with sentiments of people, at least if you are aware of the cause of this problem, communicate it to your users properly and provide a proper solution at the earliest.
The most annoying this is when I talked with the customer care cell, they said they have not heard about this issue. It seems that customer care guys are not aware and updated on the issues being discussed on SE forums. Amazing and strange...!!
Guys please help me if anyone of you had same issue and resolved it successfully.

Hi all,
I've purchased Xperia Neo V (White) 1 week ago and I am having the same issue, phone is resetting frequently itself when I use Wi-fi and then leave it idle. I tried factory reset and upgrading firmware but they did not solve my problem so far.
I have been using SE Phones for 4 years (K790i, K800i, Xperia X8) and I haven't seen any problem so far with them and all of them are still used by other users.
I am going to call SE Turkey Tomorrow and want assistance about the issue.
Bilal.
I am from bangalore, india. last month purchased neo v and facing same restart issue....i went customer support and they ask to update software...this was already done by myself...did sony ericsson team resolved this issue or not....its a software or hardware bug....what shall we do?
Hi Vivek, I also reside in Bangalore only and noticed the restart issue only 2nd day of my purchase. I took that very seriously and took a full day leave and spent whole day in SE service center to prove that the device needs replacement. Initially they kept saying that s/w update will solve the issue. I told them that I'm a mobile application developer by profession and I did al these things. Even then they updated the s/w once again (which was already there on my phone! Ridiculous!!). I observed that the problem comes after using wi-fi for a while and then keeping the phone idle. So I requested them to check with Wi-fi. To my utter surprise the service center guys said they don't have wi-fi there!! I had to visit Sony showroom to check the wi-fi and the problem reproduced again. I immediately went to service center and showed them the continuous restart cycle the device was going through. Then they gave me a replacement letter.
So bro, there is no other way than getting your faulty device replaced. For you it has already one month so they may not get ready for the replacement still you should insist them. Usually they replace the device if you report such issues within 7 days from purchase.
Talk to SE toll free number, if service center didn't satisfy you (1800-3000-2800).
@Martha, Where are you? Will you still say that the problem is with few handsets?
Hi,
Is your issue resolved with new set?
SE service center sucks..they always do software update. Then i call customer support and they give below instructions to do. I did all these but still its getting restarted...

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre. We are sorry to hear your Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V is turning off and restarting by itself. We would first suggest that you remove the battery and memory card from your Sony Ericsson handset for approximately thirty seconds and then place the only battery back in your handset and power it on.
If after trying this, your phone works as intended then this suggests a fault with your memory card or with some content on the memory card causing the problems. We would therefore suggest that you format the memory card which you can do by following the steps below:
1. Open the Menu Please note any data on the memory card will be deleted and would need backing up before performing the above. If your handset is still restarting on its own then we would suggest removing any third party applications you may have installed on your handset. If you have installed a badly written application from the Android Market then this could be the cause of the problem. Please follow the steps below to remove third party applications from your handset:
1. Open the Menu |
This is an known bug for Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V and these people not trying to fix this bug...they still go with some assumptions...they made some instruction like below and whoever report this bug, they sent this....this they started last week....Prior to last week they have the solution of software update...don't know what they come up with next week....

If you were even slightly technologically minded you would have tried any of the solutions that they suggest frankly ==" And is Sony Ericsson ever going to realize that this is an actual problem that can't be solved with software updates or card formats, 'cuz I'm finding this seriously bullsh-t. SE needs some new support staff.
Yea the issue is no more there in new handset. The se service center really sucks. The one I visited didn't have wi-fi to reproduce my issue. I could not believe... But it was reality.
Has anyone tried replacing their battery with a new one? 'Cuz now I've started to notice that my phone seems to kinda work on certain percentage ranges.
Boss, believe me it has nothing to do with battery. When I first went SE service station they wanted the phone without battery, SIM and SD card. They first try it with their battery. Many people have tried various "totkas" (tricks) to correct the issue but none of them worked. Nobody knows what's wrong but the replacement is the only solution that worked for me and people like me.
I'm still active on this forum, though my problem has been solved, just to spread word and make others aware who are struggling with this issue.

Oh my God, is it an excuse? "We will not replace your phone because we do not have the equipment to test it." If Sony Service Center does not have EVERYTHING needed to test their devices, then who will have? Should the consumer go to Samsung Service Center and ask to test the Sony phone, because the Sony Service Center is not able to test WiFi? (but who knows, maybe Samsung Service Center doesn't have wifi either...)
Anyway, I was looking forward to buy Neo V ... now I am hesitating. Does the old Neo (MT15i) also suffer the same problem or is it just Neo V?
