I purchased the new Xperia Neo V last Saturday only. As soon as I came home and started using the phone it started rebooting every now and then. I searched on internet and found that many people are facing the same issue with the same model. On Sony Ericsson forum they recommended to go for a factory reset and software upgrade. I tried both the things but it is exhibiting same behavior.
It doesn't reset when you're working on it but as soon as it goes in standby mode and I try to make it alive by pressing the Home key it restarts. I also observed restart issue while receiving calls.
At times, it resets itself continuously, when I keep it idle. The device screen gets dark then after some time the device splash screen reappears (the graphics that it shows while turning it on), then again a while it goes into standby mode and again the same cycle. I've noticed it resetting itself like this for more than 10 times at a go.
Earlier the phone had s/w ver 4.0.1.A.0.283 after updating it became 4.0.2.A.0.42
I urge you not to play with sentiments of people, at least if you are aware of the cause of this problem, communicate it to your users properly and provide a proper solution at the earliest.
The most annoying this is when I talked with the customer care cell, they said they have not heard about this issue. It seems that customer care guys are not aware and updated on the issues being discussed on SE forums. Amazing and strange...!!
Guys please help me if anyone of you had same issue and resolved it successfully.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I have tried in all possible means of communication with Sony Ericsson. I am not getting any sensible answers to the problem and no one has any clue how to fix the problem.
Even after so many customers reporting the problem around the world, SE keeps silent about this problem and everyone in SE keeps saying it is not a common problem.
So I have decided to create a web page to collect all the users who has the restart problem and show SE that how many of us are facing the problem. Given below is the link, please fill the details

If your phone's mother board is changed and still have the problem, then you make two entries with the original IMEI and the new mother boards IMEI. Same with replaced phones. You can see the responses in the below link
Do share these links in all your social networking accounts.
If I don’t get resolution for the problem in next 2 weeks, I am just not going to file a consumer law suit alone. But I am also going to file a law suit against SE to stop selling this model and pay penalty for all the customers who purchased it. I hope I will have sufficient enough supporters for this
the second link doesnt open..access denied.
dont take a chance with neo V. Here in india we dont have Neo released so we have to got for the neo V.
But if ur willing to get multiple replacements done and r prepared for it, then go ahead.
I have a replaced phone now, and it works perfectly fine and its a great phone too...i didnt find any bug in this one.
You should be able to access the second link also now.
Thanks, rameshkannank, I will tell all my friends to fill that form, I know one Russian forum where many Neo V users have this problem.
It would be great to consolidate this thread with the second one:
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/135514
and make it sticky... but I guess, SE may make it sticky only when they recognize the problem.
The only problem - it is not a good idea to leave statistics document open, it might become a target for spammers (e-mails, phones), and also IMEI numbers are considered a sensitive information.
I just wonder, how good is the SE service center feedback? Does they at SE headquarters have any monthly statistics about the failure rate and issues? If they collect the statisctics rarely, then it is obvious, it would take really long time for them to even notice that there is a major problem. Also taking into account the bureaucracy, elevation, paperwork...
Some more info from Russia: people say that sometimes the fix is to change their mobile operator. Not just another SIM card, but another operator. Also they noticed, that the problem is most often at the moments when the phone is switching between cells (but again, only for some operators). And now combining the stories about WiFi, it seems, there might be a problem with the radio part of the phone, it is doing something that makes the phone crash. Maybe some modules emit some wrong data to the software drivers in some occasions, that is why it is harder to reproduce it 100%.
Also there are some complaints about SE WiFi generally: it has problems with some certain routers (especially with D-Link). Other Andorid phones can connect without issues, but SE loses its connection often or makes the router itself to hang. But again, not 100% reproducable.
Maybe this is not SE fault, maybe Andorid devs have missed something specific about Neo V hardware, but anyway, SE *should* notice that, if they have any feedback from their service centers.
I wonder, why is it for SE so hard to request statistics about last month repairs and notice that Neo V rebooting issue has suspiciously high rate? Then they just could send an order to the service centers to return a bunch of rebooting phones to SE engineers, and they should be able to reproduce the problem (if only they have WiFi routers of various brands and also SIM cards of various mobile operators).
Look at some similar reports:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/05/12/xperia-arc-suffering-from-random-reboot-issue/
in Russia:

http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?&showtopic=229047&mode=show&st=0
(not so many restarting issues, but still cannot be ignored).
Now it is more clear, why Sony Ericsson might not notice special problems with Neo V: other phones have the same problem, too. Unfortunately, there is only one way to discover it - collecting and investigating problematic phones. Let's hope they'll do that soon. Or maybe Android 4 will fix that? Let's hope so....

i just bought my xperia neo v december 13, that was tuesday night, and immediately notice the restart problem, first i thought it was normal because we all know android is not that stable, experiencing restart also on my motorola milestone, but the neo v restart problem is beyond ordinary problem, it keeps on restarting when the phone is in idle mode, when you try to put the screen to lock and when you wake it up it will reboot continuesly until the battery is drain, i tried restoring to factory reset but still getting same problem, tried different sim cards, i found one way to stop the restart problem, once the phone restart on its own turn it off and turn back on, it will stop rebooting but after several hours 5-7 hours problems happened again, specially after you re charge your phone. i think there are many faulty neo v units out there. sony ericsson should take care of this matter,
SE should make an official statement regarding this problem on the neo V. is it related to software which can be fix later? i can accept that, but if this is related to hardware which the only way is to replace the unit. good thing my neo v is just 1 1/2 old and still covered under replacement warranty. by the way im from the PHILIPPINES.
now i contacted the seller of my neo V, and will be replacing it today december 15, i hope the replacement will not have that kind of problem or it will be the last SE/sony phone i will be buying.
Hi,
I am from Croatia and I want to report the same issue with the Xperia Neo V. I bought the phone 3 days ago and I've been having the same restarting problem. It is driving me crazy and not to mention that it is of great importance for me to be reachable all the time. I guess a lot of people feel the same but by not being reachable all the time could seriously affect my work.
I see that a lot of people have the same problem and just for the record I am prepared to sue Sony if that is what it takes for you to resolve the problem or at lesat for you to give me my money back so that I can buy some other brand.
I've changed my phone brand from Iphone to Sony Ericsson and so far I have regret it. At least Apple f.... you politely.
P.S. I will even change my TV brand.
P.S. Not kidding.
i got my replacement yesterday! its working fine so far, havent encounter the restart problem now, so it must have been really the faulty handset, im loving my xperia neo v without the restart problem. go to the store where you bought your neo v and get a replacement.
but im really sure that there are several faulty neo v out there., lucky me that i notice it in just 1 day from the day i bought it.
