I'm using Sony Bridge for Mac. Tried updating to the new firmware. At the end of the updating process, I got the message: Update failed. Reason: UE communication failed (code 100, text: )).
I tried the repair function (Phone > Repair Xperia unit) in Sony Bridge, it seemed to go smooth but then failed at the end again with the same error message.
Phone is just a few weeks old. What can I do?

Ok, in this case please try running the update with this when you can get onto the PC:

Please try this:
To repair the phone software

2. In PC Companion, under Support Zone and click Start.
3. Under Phone Software Update, click Start.
4. Click repair phone.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Well i tried this.. it refuses to recognize the phone no matter what... just shows sony phone connected and when i follow the on screen instructions it keeps saying switch on ur phone and let it boot.. which is not happening given the state of my phone.
PS: THe sony service centre tried to bill me Rs 8.5k ( USD $ 160) to replace the motherboard when its clearly a software issue. I hope this issue can be taken up at ur end.
Meanwhile
what are the other options you propose.
It worked, the phone is up and running again. I find it a bit lame that I have to borrow someone's Windows PC to perform updates though.
In this case please try the other program I linked above, this will not require you to turn the phone on:
