Sony Xperia SP - Screen won't light up during calls!

I can make calls and receive calls but when I call someone the screen goes black and it's not lighting up again, except the other person hangs up the phone. I've tried to go back to factory settings but it still the same.

Btw, I have no cover or screen protector.

This phone is good, but it has proximity sensor problem for sure. It causes the above problem. Just search for "proximity sensor sony xperia sp" and there will be tons of complains. Also, I am almost sure that Sony knows about this, but support is ignoring us. To check the sensor call *#*#3738423*#*# then try proximity sensor test.

On my device it works fine in the room, but fails outside... especially at sun light. It allways in ON state.

So, this is NOT a software bug(they made few updates that did not help), I think the sensor should be replaced, that is why Sony support does not answer.

Hello,

Same problem... outdoor only...

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-SP/proximity-sensor-issue-with-last-update-after-a-call-when/m-...

This appear after an update, not .205 but previous one. That's why i think is because of a software bug...

But you maybe right maybe my sensor had a problem too.

What can we do ?

It's a very anoying problem... I've my Sp since december so it was not sunny as now. Sensor problem with sun or warm ? Software problem ? I'would like to have an awnser by SONY that may know the real problem...

(No cover protection on the screen)

I have the same problem, despite having the most recent 4.3 update.

Once I talk during a call, and then want to use the keypad to enter a nmber, the screen remains black, adn I am unable to enter numbers. I have no screen protector on, and the screen is clean.

I have tried various thing to control the lcok, on/off button, camera button etc. but this problem continues!

Sony, please do something about this - the SP is very frustrating to use.

Hi stoatsngroats and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

If you have this problem prior to running the update then this indicates this may be an underlying hardware issue and as such I would have to advise you to contact your local  Xperia Care team to have an assessment arranged.

Hey Guys

I was reading through a bunch of stuff because my xperia sp was having the same blank screen when in the middle of a call. I was reading through an adroid forum and came across the solution of switching the "turn off after inactivity" under display to 30 min. Funnily enough it has worked so far. Give it a try guys

Cheers

I too have this problem.  I have had to take off my protective screen cover which obviously places the phone at risk of damage.

But it did solve the problem.

Not impressive of sony.  I am speaking to my phone provider and seeing how quickly I can change to a samsung.

This exact problem exists with my handset, and I have tried all the above solutions - none of them worked. However what DOES work for me is TAPPING the proximity sensor when I want to wake the screen during a call. The proximity sensor is located to the left of the ear piece and is photosensitive. When I tap it a few times, usually the sensor will pick-up a change and the screen wakes up. Hope this works for some of you too!
