Today I get a message saying an update was available for my firmware. Trying with pc companion does not work giving me this error
"Sony Update Engine failure (error 100)"
I then downloaded the sony update service. That did not work.
I installed the update service to my netbook, which has no anti-virus on it, and tried again. Did not work.
I then enabled the dmz on my firewall and went through the same routine. Did not work.
I am going to have to go back to the shop and see if they can get it to work. It is still under warranty but I don't know if firmware is covered.
So far, not impressed.
Can anybody tell me what error 100 is?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Aha! This time it worked. I went into settings->developer options and unchecked
"Don't keep activities"
and
"Show all ANRs".
I honestly do not know how that made a difference, but those were the only changes I made before it eventually upgraded. USB debugging still does not work though.
Unfortunately this is a fairly generic error. In this case I would also advise returning it for assessment by an authorised repair agent.

Is this in any way connected to the fact that the android sdk virtual device manager will not recognise it when debugging? (I am thinking something to do with the usb, which works in all other respects)
I successfully updated a tipo to 11.0.A.4.22 using win7 and PC Companion. Maybe check if Windows firewall is temporarily or partially turned off perhaps?
Probably best to download the latest version of PC Companion and install. I also got an error at first which went away after I tapped Skip on the phone to installing PC compion again. Not responding to the phone screen's Skip or Install prompt seemed to cause my error.
Might help, don't know.
All the best
Also, The message I get from Sony telling me there is an update says points to a broken link, namely sonymobile.com/update That is shockingly poor.
