This suggest that the problem has to do with an app you've downloaded. What safe mode does is to start the phone without loading any apps that you have downloaded.
Though i'm not sure what 3:rd party app that could cause this. Try remembering what apps you installed around the time this started to happen. I suspect task killers or apps that integrate with the dialer.
Sounds like there may be a problem with the sensor in your phone. When you cover the top front part of the phone it should read as "On".
Try restarting the phone and also update/repair the phones software using PC Companion and see if that helps. If not, i suggest that you contact a service location or local Sony Xperia support (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/) for assistance.
HI,
During the service tests, when I place my hand over the proximity sensor, ststus shows on.
But my issue is that during calls, my screen is not turning off.
I dont have any coating or protective film over the sensor area.
Can this be a software issue?
If it works in the service menu it doesn't sound like a hardware issue. What happens if you try calling now?
As of now, when i call someone, the screen does not turn off.
I tried multiple times, but the proximity sensor has no effect on the screen, the screen stays on till I lock the phone manually using the lock button.
Please provide a solution as this is creating issues when I'm on a call, accidently turning mute, on hold etc...
What happens if you try this in safe mode (http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008)?
HI, in safe mode, the proximity sensor appears to be working fine, my screen truns off during a call, when i keep it near my face.
So, any idea why it is not working in the normal mode?
Should i approach a service center?

HI,
Sorry for the late reply.
I had a task manager installed, which now appears to have blocked the working of the sensor.
Removed the app from the phone and I"m really happy to to say that the sensor is now working properly.
Thanks a lot for the help.
