I bought an Xperia Sola last week. It worked beautifully for 6 days, but today it won't turn on.
I left it charging overnight. This morning nothing happened when i pressed the power button.
Pressing the power button without the charger causes the red light to flash for a few seconds and nothing else. The red light also appears when the charger is connected.
PC Companion does not detect the phone. Holding down the volume-up and pressing the power button for 10 seconds does nothing.
I knew when i chose this phone that although the specs were good, the software was buggy. I was hoping a software update would become available before the phone started suffering from mysterious software failures. The rom version was 168 but no updates were detected by Android.
I would like to know if this problem is software or hardware, and if there is any way i can fix it myself before sending the phone away to be fixed.

I just tried charging the phone using a different charger, and that solved the problem.
After half an hour on a Samsung charger, the phone came back to life.
Now hopefully the phone will remain stable until the ICS update
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/ Well you can try running the update service on it, since the phone has to be switched off anyway for this process, and see if that reactivates the phone.
That's good news!
I have exactly the same problem. Now it is connected to another Sony charger (X10 charger). I hope this works.
Maybe it's a charger or battery problem. I think you could go to a service with the phone
Or just charge it with the Samsung charger for a while and see if after you shut down the phone , it will come back online as it should.
What was your phone's behavior while being charged with that samsung charger? Was it charging i.e. the LED light appears? My phone is connected to power 1 hour ago and the LED is still off. Also the phone is cold as if it's not connected to the power.
LED is on (red). Or green when battery is charged.
I would try with on other charger and/or cable.
It flashes red for one second then it goes off. That's why I couldn't know it is charging really or not.
Tried two Sony chargers and Kindle charger, each for a couple of hours but no response.
The problem is that I am on a vacation and can't go to the service center. Will I stay 10 days without a mobile. frustrated
After more problems and experimentation, i have discovered that it wasnt the power adapter after all, it was the wall socket.
Something is seriously wrong with the wall socket that the Sony charger was plugged into. It appeared to work and the light came on, but for some reason the phone didn't charge properly.
The Samsung charger was plugged into a different socket. After plugging the Sony charger into a different socket it worked. Plugging a different phone into the faulty socket also failed to charge even though the charging light came on.
Truth is stranger than fiction.
